Yesterday, I made a mistake.
I am telling everyone this because I want people to know that ABOVE ALL ELSE at Budget Vet we value being truthful.
Mistakes happen....sometimes tragically. No one is immune.
Yesterday I accidentally ear tipped a cat who was privately owned by a person who has brought us feral cats previously. It WAS stated on the chart that this was not a TNR cat, but I tipped it's ear anyway. It was a mistake and I freely admit it. The cat is fine. The neuter went well and the cat was not in any danger.
In fact, this kitty looks almost identical to the stock picture below.

I am posting this for several reasons....
#1-I want everyone to know that Budget Vet goes above and beyond, but that we are human too. Any vet that tells you they have never made a mistake is lying.
#2-There is an issue with su***de in vets. It's because we are the most empathetic and, at the same time, driven professionals around. We care deeply. The client with this cat has threatened me basically because he believes my response to this occurrence was not appropriate. I will not name him....although I feel CERTAIN he will name me at some point. A weaker minded vet may be pushed to deep places by an occurrence like this.
#3-We have a huge shortage of vets right now. I am over worked for sure, but there is no good solution. We try desperately not to raise prices because we started this particular business to help people....however, the power company does not understand our lofty goals.
#4-The response should fit the occurrence. YES, the ear tip should not have been done. But the ear tip does not hurt the cat. It does not affect quality of life at all. I am not being flippant. I cannot reverse the tipping but it was a minor procedure AND this client had brought TNRs(trap, neuter, return) before AND we had just finished two TNR cats before his. I DID make a mistake, but it was not a painful or dangerous mistake. We tried to offer something in return, but this client wanted the entire bill forgiven. That was an unreasonable request....and the client was unreasonable about it in attitude as well.
#5-Budget Vet will ALWAYS stand behind our work. When we make a mistake, we will admit it and compensate for it. I have worked at places where the mistakes are lied about......which would you rather have? A lie that makes you feel better or the truth? We value truth here....and sometimes it's not happy.

So, just putting this out here so y'all know what's going on if someone goes on a social media rant. The cat in question is fine.
He now looks like the cat in this picture. Although it WAS a mistake, it wasn't a serious mistake. We will always take responsibility for anything we do.

If you and your pets had to be evacuated due to the fire at Biolab, we ask that you contact us ASAP.
It is very important to determine if there are any problems caused by the smoke to your pet.
This is particularly important for those in the evacuation zone on Sunday.
Budget Vet will be offering initial exams at no charge to look for any signs of damage that need to be addressed.
Since we do NOT KNOW exactly what chemicals were involved, it is very important to determine what symptoms pets are experiencing.
We are very close to the fire ourselves and our yard here at the clinic is full of ash.
If you are in the evacuation zone and have ash in your yard, we recommend that you pick it up and do not allow your pets to come in contact with it. It is also advised that all outdoor water sources for your pets be replaced with fresh water ASAP.
Saving samples of outdoor water and ash is advised.
We just do not know how bad this is yet, so it's important for us to establish a baseline.

We provide affordable veterinary care for dogs, cats, rabbits, pot bellied pigs, sugar gliders, horse

***Here is a prime example of why flea and tick preventative is important***
Had this client/owner not trapped this kitty for the T-N-R program this kitten could have passed away due to the amount that was seen. ☹️

This is a post- op picture of a 47lb dog spay.....can you find the incision?
Smaller incisions mean less pain and faster recovery.
When having your dog spayed or neutered, do you want some who has done literally THOUSANDS of these procedures or someone that does 40 or 50 a year?
Oh.....and we beat the prices of most private practices as well ...so there's that.
