Poor quality cell phone video but awesome subjects. Not one, not two, but three screech owls in our trees tonight.
Many chicken tenders would worry about the safety of their fowl during this time especially with them so close; however, we do not. We have 3 LGD and they do an amazing job keeping everyone safe even with arboreal predators.
Your Mom ‘n Em appreciate all of the beauty in nature, even beauty that can cause devastation.
No but seriously though, who’s on duty?
Just sone ducks being ducks!
Still perfecting his laugh. But he makes me cackle everytime.
We are having a crow war today with your Mom ‘n Em. If you pay close attention you can hear the rooster laugh right at the end.
Ayam Ketawa also known as the Laughing Chicken truly are there for your enjoyment. These boys make me cackle.

Wait for it…. Wait for it….
These are the newest addition to the Mom ‘n Em flock. Ayam Ketawa chickens.
Even when you *think* you know what you’re doing, sometimes you get surprised. Your Mom ‘n Em had 28 eggs set to hatch today, hatch began yesterday evening. Thinking they were done, all but two eggs were out, Mom decided to do an eggtopsy as per usual. Well imagine Mom’s surprise when this little dude wasn’t dead as she’d thought.
Mom put on the breaks! No active bleeding, internal membrane still intact! So what did Mom do? Well she pooped that sucker right back into the incubator basket and into the incubator!
Mom ‘n Em will keep a close watch on this little guy. No life is insignificant here. We do all we can to preserve life here at Mom ‘n Em: Hare & Hen.
I have to say, even if this guy and the second egg doesn’t make it, 26/28 ain’t too shabby.
The LORD will preserve him, and keep him alive; [and] he shall be blessed upon the earth: and thou wilt not deliver him unto the will of his enemies. Psalms 41:2
As life goes, Mom ‘n Em lost power lastnight during the storms. Our power was still off upon waking at 7am. This wouldn’t be such a big deal but we have 30+ eggs in the incubator, 6 babies hatching, and 18 chicks in the brooder. Fearing the worst Mom opened the incubator with hatching babies in it. Two of the 6 eggs were pipped but silent. The first one Mom picked up was gone, sadly. The second one appeared to also be gone. Just as Mom was about to give up she heard a the quietest weakest little chirp ever.
That’s when her years of animal experience kicked in! She knew she had to get his baby warm, but how?
First video is during the warming process. Video in comments is now. It’s amazing what a little knowledge and a lot of prayer can do!
Still praying for the 4 other eggs set to hatch and the 30+ in the incubator. (All brooder babies are fine)
Unpackaging video for some new English Orpington eggs. This is one I haven’t seen before.
