Thank you for making Whisker Whirl, presented by UMB Bank, unforgettable! We can do incredible things when we come together — and Saturday night’s Whisker Whirl was proof of that! We’re so grateful for your support, and we had a blast seeing all the four-legged friends in the crowd. 🐕

Bright-eyed Winter, a 3-month-old American Bulldog, was transferred to Animal Humane Society from an overcrowded shelter.

When Winter arrived, our veterinary team noticed she had a swollen belly and a runny nose — common signs of parasites and an upper respiratory infection. Our team quickly got to work providing this sweet puppy with the care she needed to heal, including basic preventative vaccines and spay surgery.

Winter recovered from her infections without issue, but a complication arose after her spay surgery: She developed a seroma near her incision site. Seromas are fluid buildups that can occur after surgery in the empty space beneath the skin. They aren’t always dangerous, but they often cause pain and discomfort. Without observation, they can turn into serious infections and even abscesses.

❤️ With lots of love from our staff and volunteers, we were able to help Winter's healing get back on track. Once her swelling went down, she moved into the adoption center — and she found her new home the very next day.

Looking for a pup who’s playful, sweet, and loyal? Meet Zola, a volunteer favorite and our Purina-Pet-of-the-Week!

At 7-years-old, despite her friendly personality, Zola has been waiting longer than most animals in our care for a new family. She’s eager to be someone’s new best friend and adventure buddy. 🐕 Whether it’s a game of fetch or a long walk, Zola will thrive in an active home where she can get plenty of exercise and mental stimulation. Now through September 30, donate supplies to our Community Outreach program. 🐕 The greatest need is for items to accommodate large dog breeds, such as collars, harnesses, and leashes (approximately 6 feet in length, with no retractable leashes). Items can be dropped off at our Golden Valley shelter locations during business hours: ahs.mn/hours-and-locations.

🪶 These pigeons came to Animal Humane Society under difficult circumstances, but now they’re thriving in their new home. This Happy Tail wouldn’t be possible without Denae’s care and compassion. Denae shares,

“I adopted Mambo and Salsa, the pigeons from a humane investigation case with Animal Humane Society. They had been split up because Mambo pulled feathers out of Salsa, and there were worries they were no longer bonded. I’d like to report they were extremely happy to be reunited and haven’t had another fight! Mambo is very protective over her and loves to show off. He’s bold and almost always the first to eat from my hand. Salsa is so bossy, she’s half the size of the other pigeons and twice the attitude! They’ve been outside with the others for quite a while now and they’re doing great, as well as the other pigeons from the case. They are all so friendly and curious, and watching them is so calming. Thank you for taking care of them and giving them all a second chance, they’re definitely very grateful!” 💕
