Due to the Florida heat and per the suggestion of our veterinarian, our sheep (Elsa and BaaBaa) got a little help accelerating the shedding process to remove their winter coats this past week. Underneath the thick winter coat you can see their summer coats shine through.
Tradewinds Park is now open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. for passive recreational use!
We know that many of you are just as excited to get outside as the goats, but please remember the following guidelines when you are visiting the park:
DO NOT enter a park if you have COVID-19 symptoms. Please practice physical distancing by staying at least six feet away from others. All visitors MUST have face coverings with them at all times and are required to wear them if they are within 6 feet of another person. Follow CDC guidelines on personal hygiene. There will be limited access to restrooms and water fountains.
Currently the park office, general store, playgrounds, stables, farm, athletic fields, Butterfly World, Equine Assisted Therapies, and Tradewinds Atlantic Railroad are closed. However, visitors may walk, run, bike, fish, play individual disc golf, launch their personal boat, and ride their own personal horses at the park.
During this time, the weekend/holiday gate fee has been temporarily suspended.
If you have any questions or concerns, please call the park at 954-357-8870 and press 0 to speak to a staff member. You can also find more information at www.broward.org/Parks/Pages/COVID19PARKUPDATES

Just some ponies playing in the rain 🌧
This is Wilbur, our miniature potbellied pig enjoying some goat milk! At 3 years old and a whopping 90 lbs he is still not finished growing. We expect him to be around 150 lbs as an adult.
Tradewinds Park Farm gets at least one call per month from someone hoping to re-home a miniature pig that grew larger than expected. Breeders often sell miniature “teacup” or “micro” pigs to unsuspecting families claiming that their pigs will stay small if you underfeed them.
Additionally, miniature pigs can reach sexual maturity as early as 3 months old but keep growing until they are 4-5 years old and up to 200 lbs. So breeders often use the size of their piglets’ parents as “evidence” that their pigs will not grow as large as other pigs when the parents of those piglets usually aren’t fully grown themselves.
If you or someone you know is planning to adopt a miniature pig, please make sure you do your research to ensure you can provide the animal with a healthy life long home!
