Let your daughters grow up to be horse girls.

Let her room be messy and her clothes be torn. Let her barns be spotless and her horses shine. Let her be first up in the morning and the last in from outdoors at night. Let her forget breakfast and skip dinners and have flat sandwiches on white bread, gripped in dirty hands. Let her horse share the sandwiches.

Let the kids at school call her 'horse girl' as an insult and let her screen saver tell them she accepts the name with pride. Let her miss class for a show. Let her miss a show for the vet. Let her cry when she wins and cry when she loses. Let her make best friends and make worst enemies and fall off and get back on and fall off again. Let her be the one they put on the crazy ponies. Let her ride every day. Then let her have a second horse. And a third.

And when the going gets rough, let yourself relax. Horse girls become horsewomen and horsewomen don't give up.

Elvis Presly had around 20 horses during his lifetime. He bought horses for his friends and bodyguards, It didn't matter if they wanted one or not, they were getting a horse!
Elvis got into horses like he got into everything; he eased into it right over the top. Elvis cared deeply after his horses.
After a hard ride, Elvis would walk his horse three times longer than necessary to cool him out, just to be sure the horse was safe to return to pasture. He was fastidious about the barn area, and personally marked each person's tack hook and stall … Daddy's, Priscilla's, Mine… The labels remain in the barn to this day.

One of his favourite breeds was Tennessee Walking horse. The last horse he purchased, passed away in 2005 at the age of 32 years old, a Tannessee Walking stallion named Ebony's Double purchased in 1975. While, one of his horses, Mare Ingram lived to the age of 50!

His personal mount was a Rising Sun, a big, beautiful palomino Quarter Horse.

Sometimes Elvis would ride down to the gates of Graceland and show off for his fans, sit and chat from the saddle, and sign autographs. Then to their gasping admiration, he'd take off on Rising Sun at a dead gallop back towards the barn. Elvis was so attached to Bear, a Tennessee Walking Horse, that when the horse died while Elvis was on tour, no one would tell him until he got home, fearing how the news would devastate him.

BY PONYMOMAMMY I am firmly in the camp of never blaming the horse/pony when things go wrong. This concept has been engrained in me since I first put a foot in the stirrup, and I hold strong to that belief today.  Sometimes I wonder if this mentality is universal for all equestrians, and if it […]

HORSES AT WAR. How we handle.

To understand the situation I need to give you short review of Ukrainian horse-world. So, we have:
🏇 top sports horses and riders / stud farms. Those people are rich enough to secure their horses. Who was clever enough took the horses out of Ukraine first days of the invasion. Some people hesitated and now their horses got stuck in Ukraine because of war actions. Main request from them is evacuation (transport only). Equestrian Federation of Ukraine is working to gain international support for them.
🏇 Private hobby horses. The owners didn’t think of evacuation mostly or postponed the decision as they do not have funds to keep horses abroad for a long time. Lots of them lost their jobs. These horses stay in Ukraine, some moved to border. So, here the funds for food and free shelter abroad are needed.
🏇 Horse riding schools / recreation stables / horse therapy. Very low-margin business where owners are also grooms and coaches as well. Our stable belongs to this group. We are not members of Equestrian Federation. We have small savings and our horses have no commercial or breeding value. So we don’t have funds for evacuation and keeping horses abroad for long. The options we have: 1) to keep horses locally hoping to survive war; 2) to find sponsor for evacuation; 3) to loose horses and hope for best. For now we still stick to option 1 and ask to support us with food for horses (we still can buy locally) and team (salary, food, mobile internet to be in touch). Maybe we survive till truce or piece comes. If too dangerous to stay we’ll move to option 2 and 3.

As of today hippodrome in Kyiv is not shot with rockets and bombs. People and horses are safe. There about 400 horses at hippodrome. Horses belong to riding schools, clubs, private owners, state stud farms.

Our school has 10 horses: 8 school horses and 2 private hobby horses. One groom is staying with them. Food supply is enough for several days.

MERCI DIAMANT
MERCI INFINIMENT POUR TOUT !
TU RESTERAS A TOUT JAMAIS DANS NOTRE CŒUR ET DANS L’HISTOIRE

BY PONYMOMAMMY If you ride horses for long enough, you will fall off at some point. It’s inevitable. Horses and ponies will give you an ego check when you are least expecting it. I’ve had several moms (some new to the pony mom scene, and some who are fellow ammy’s) ask me recently about how [....
