Just under 2 weeks until the Northwestern Michigan Fair Draft Horse Show. We are still accepting sponsors, your name will be read during the show and your name will be on a banner hanging in the draft horse barn all week. Come on out to the fair enjoy the draft horse show on Sunday the first day, and see the happenings that will be going on in the draft horse barn the rest of the week. The museum will be open also in the draft horse barn with some unique items to see. Looks like the draft horse barn will be full of draft horses this year as well!!

The weather report has changed going to be a great day!!

Don't let the weather bother you, we are all watching it. It looks like it will rain in the morning, but by the time we will be driving it won't be. We start off with introductions, safety, different harness and how to fit, bits and bitting, line driving both single and teams, hitching to implements and vehicles, driving single and double hooked to carts and wagons. We will probably break for lunch before we get hooked to vehicles. Again this is very hands on! Hope to see you Saturday in Hart!

I have been very fortunate to grow up in the horse industry breeding, showing both Morgans and Clydesdales and training all breeds. I'm not sure what year we started going to the Michigan Horse Expo but it was downtown and I was just a kid so I'm going to say at least 40 years ago. Some of the people that I have looked up to are no longer with us and some are up there in age now. But I'm getting there too. I had some people come by the Michigan Draft Horse Breeders Association Booth this past weekend and Thanked me for all I do promoting the horse industry. It's my pleasure to share my knowledge and my horses and history of the horse with everyone. I want to Thank everyone that came out to the Michigan Horse Expo. I believe it is very important to attend this great event in our state. I want to Thank Everyone that stopped by the Michigan Draft Horse Breeders Association Booth that asked questions, picked up flyers, membership directory, or just petted Trick.

Baby it’s cold outside! ❄️⛄️

Many people think of donkeys as hardy, low-maintenance “small horses.” However, while they have similarities, donkeys are a completely different species and as such have a different physical, mental, and emotional make-up.

As the weather gets colder, it’s important to remember that donkeys are more sensitive to changes in temperature than their equine friends. They don’t grow a winter coat like horses and their hair is less waterproof, so they require shelter from the elements (like a run-in shed or a waterproof blanket). Being stoic animals, they also won’t show signs of discomfort and hypothermia until they are very sick.

Remember that every animal is different depending on age, breed, and other health conditions, so be sure with your primary veterinarian to address any concerns or questions!
