This little cutie came in to us as an owner surrender. He was recently adopted from another shelter and turned out not to be a good fit for his new home.
He is an adult (2-4 years old approx.), neutered male shih-tzu who is current on vaccinations and ready to settle into a forever home.
He is very friendly but can be shy around new dogs. He would prefer to either be an only dog or perhaps in a home with a submissive dog who can let him be the boss and allow for a slow introduction.
He does have a shaved spot on his back that was shaved by a vet at the previous shelter he was at. It appears that he has an allergic skin issue in the past that will likely need follow-up care.

Hi… My name is Munch and I’m currently the most senior dog, by age, at the shelter. I’m nearly 4 ½ years old. I arrived at the shelter just over a month ago with a few of my friends. We used to be at a shelter in Pilot Point, but it was damaged by the storms we had at the end of May, so we all had to be moved to other shelters. I guess I used to be a country dog, but I’ll admit I like what I’ve seen in Coppell so far. I could definitely see myself settling down here.

I am a large dog but I am very chilled. I love going for my walks especially if I get to meet new people or other dogs. I’ve been to the Farmer’s Market every Saturday since I’ve got here and I enjoy just standing around and getting petted by kids and adults. I don’t react to other dogs when I’m on my walks. The only time I do react is if there is another dog that I want to meet that I can’t, then I might bark a few times, but that’s about it. I can get excited if I see a bunny or a squirrel running around but a quick tug on my leash and telling me to ‘leave it’ will calm me down again.

At the shelter I spend most my time with the two friends I came with. They are both younger than me and enjoy playing around and wrestling. I do join in now again and when I do, I enjoy it. But my real playing days are behind me. I prefer a quieter life now. On these hot summer days I enjoy lying in front of the large fan they have at the shelter and having my belly rubbed by the shelter volunteers. I am also very thankful that our rooms at the shelter have air conditioning as I do enjoy getting out of the heat. I could not be an outside dog. Then again, I can’t imagine why anyone would want to spend all their time outside during a Texas summer.

I haven’t shown any destructive tendencies at the shelter, and, based on my age, I think I am fully house trained. It’s possible that I won’t need to be crated when you leave the house. We’ll have to cross that bridge once you get me home, but I do want to earn your trust. The one thing I will need is a large comfortable dog bed to sleep on. You should see my set-up at the shelter, I think it’s the dog version of the California King. Maybe they’ll let me bring it home with me. I have the training basics covered, meaning that I can sit and will come when I’m called most of the time. Even though they say you can’t teach an old dog new tricks, I know that I’ll be willing to learn more for my new forever family.

I would like my forever family to have some kind of backyard that I can play around in when I am feeling a bit more energetic. I would also like them to take me on a good walk at least once a day. But I won’t need to do anything like go to the dog park, I’ll leave that to the younger pups.

I would be perfectly happy being an only dog as that would mean all the belly rubs would be for me. However, if I am going to have any brothers or sisters, I would prefer that they weren’t what people call an ‘alpha’. Even though I get on well with other dogs I don’t like it if another dog tries to be dominant with me.

I have a good deep bark, so I’ll make a good watch dog for the house. You will always know when someone is approaching.

Now for the negatives. I am currently heartworm positive but the shelter do have me on Heartguard. I have had two doses so far. The shelter will also help put you in contact with a vet who can help determine what the next treatment steps are for me.

I am also not a big kisser. My shelter uncle has been trying to get me to give him a kiss the whole time I have been at the shelter, but I haven’t done it yet. I am not one of those types of dogs. Or maybe I’m just saving it for my new forever family…

I know that there must be someone out there who is looking for a good, laidback hound. Please don’t let the heartworm issue deter you from coming to see me.

Are you looking for a strikingly handsome, friendly, smart good boy?! Larry has what you're looking for. He is about 2 years old, likes other dogs and, is the life of the party. His very favorite thing is BELLY RUBS! He is a medium/large sized mixed breed guy who is neutered, heartworm negative, current on vaccinations and microchipped. He loves going for walks and playing with toys. He still needs some help learning a few basic manners but he is very intelligent and eager to learn. He appears to be housebroken but as with any new dog, it might take some time to settle in to a new routine.
Please spread the word about this gorgeous guy!

Heads up, Coppell! Our Animal Services team has confirmed that there is an alligator in town, and it has been spotted in the northeastern portion of Coppell, in and around the small ponds and tributaries along Denton Creek.

For your safety, DO NOT swim, fish, or enter water ways in the area, and DO NOT feed the alligator. Alligators are a regulated species, and City staff is unable to remove or relocate our new reptilian resident without authorization from Texas Parks and Wildlife.

We have been in contact with Texas Parks and Wildlife, and we’ll keep you updated as we learn more!

Hi, my name is Mia. I am about 5-6 months old so I'm still a pup but probably won't get any larger than I am now. I am happy to meet new friends and get along well with other animals. I originally came into the shelter as a stray who was never claimed so the staff don't know much else about me. I will be available for adoption starting July 3 (Wednesday) at 9AM. As with all adoptions, staff will try to make sure to match me with the best possible family to set me up for long-term success.

ADOPTED!!!!!!!!

Hi, I'm Stella. I am about 5 months old. I am a Pyr/Doodle which is a mix of Great Pyrenees with Poodle. I will likely be a pretty large girl. I will need a lot of grooming. My hair grows really fast and could easily get matted if not cared for properly. I also wouldn't mind keeping cool in the summer.

I am just a pup. My previous owner found that I was a lot to handle as far as energy level and potty training so I will need a new owner that has patience and time to train and exercise me.

I am available for adoption starting Friday, June 28 at 9AM. Since I am popular already, staff will allow the first 5 people/families after 9AM (or until 12PM if 5 do not immediately show up) meet with me. I am hoping my perfect home with be one of those first people. If not, the process will open again for the afternoon. Staff said they will keep everyone updated here. The reason for this is to keep my stress levels down since I was just spayed. Meeting with too many people can be overwhelming for a pup who just got to the shelter.

Please do not DM with questions as staff will likely be busy caring for the animals and may not get to your inquiry on time. Calls will be answered as allowed and in the order they are received. Your best bet to try to adopt is to show up prior to 9AM, Friday.

*Adoption is at the discretion of staff, in the best interest of the animal.

Don't forget to visit us Thursday or Friday of this week to get your no-cost microchip and pet registration before , this weekend.

ADOPTED!!!!!

Hi… My name is Millie and I’ve been at the shelter for almost 5 months now. I’m not sure why I’ve been here for so long as I’ve seen a lot of my friends get adopted while I’ve been here. Let me tell you some things about me and maybe someone reading this will decide that they are the forever family for me. Unfortunately, my story is a lot like the other dogs that I have met in the shelter. My first mommy adopted me when I was a cute little puppy. But she was not prepared for properly dealing with me once I started growing up. So when I was about a year old she brought me back here.

As far as the basics go, I am a large dog, but I am very even tempered. I love all people and I haven’t met another dog that I don’t get on with. I think I also like cats as I love to watch the kittens playing through the glass door at the shelter.

I am nearly 18 months old so I am technically still a teenager when judging me in human years. As such I will still need to have a bit more training. I can sit and shake hands, but not so good on the down command. I think I may know the ‘come’ command, but at the shelter whenever anyone calls we all come running. I am very treat motivated and I enjoy spending time with people so extra training shouldn’t be an issue. I think I will do really well with someone who has had a large dog like me before.

My ideal forever family would be in a house with some kind of yard that I could play in. I would be OK as an only dog but having another brother or sister I could bond with would be really great. I understand that my new parents may have to go work, but I have to be honest and tell you that I am not old enough to be left alone in a house. I would have to go into a crate whenever everyone was going out, but I wouldn’t want to be in there for more than 3 or 4 hours at a time. I do suffer from a bit of separation anxiety when I am left alone, so you probably wouldn’t want to leave a blanket in my crate with me, although a good large rawhide or other chewing toy would be appreciated. I will also be very happy to see you when you do get home. I can be a bit jumpy when I’m excited so that’s another thing that we will need to work on. I am also sure that this is something I will grow out of once I realize I am in my forever home and I am a bit older. Eventually I won’t need to be crated.

I’m fairly sure I’m house trained, but you’ll need to remember that I’ve been here for nearly 5 months and may have to remember the basics. However, I know that we’ll get this sorted out pretty quickly.

I do love going on walks. I have a shelter uncle who comes and walks me 4 or 5 times a week. I get very excited when it is time for my walk. He says that I am one of the easier dogs to walk because I don’t react to other dogs that I see when we are out. In fact, I like it when I get to say hello to other dogs. On a Saturday, he will take me around the Farmer’s Market and I get to meet a lot of adults and children. I am completely fine with anyone petting me. The one thing that I can excited about on my walks is if I see any squirrels, rabbits and sometimes even birds on the ground. I do have a tendency to get a bit pully on my leash. Apparently my dominant breed was bred to be a hunting dog so it’s in my DNA. However, when I do this and my shelter uncle tells me to stop pulling I do listen to him. He also thinks that I’ll eventually mostly grow out of this. I did mention that I’m still a teenager, didn’t I?

I do need a lot of exercise because of my size and ideally I would love to be walked a couple of times a day. But if you have a large yard, then I could manage on one good walk a day. The other place I would love to go to is one of the local dog parks. I would be able to make some new friends and also get to run around and burn off some energy.

Why not come and visit me at the shelter. I know I could win you over if you met me in person. Apart from when I am out on my walks, my calendar is pretty open.
