🐾 Sophie’s Journey: A Tale of Resilience and Care 🐾

Sophie, a brave and lovable pup, has shown incredible strength throughout her health journey. Here’s her inspiring story:

💉 The Start
Sophie came to us with symptoms of lethargy, anorexia, and chronic gastrointestinal issues. After an ultrasound revealed a large mass in her stomach, she underwent exploratory surgery to remove the mass, part of her stomach, and the pylorus. A feeding tube was placed to support her recovery, and biopsies confirmed the diagnosis of a Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor (GIST).

🎗️ Oncology Care
Following surgery, Sophie began a dedicated oncology treatment plan, including Toceranib (Palladia) to manage her GIST. Regular ultrasounds, thoracic radiographs, and bloodwork have been crucial in ensuring her progress. With her family’s love and our team’s care, Sophie has responded well to treatment, with no signs of tumor recurrence.

❤️ Cardiology Care
During her journey, Sophie also underwent a cardiology evaluation, where she was diagnosed with chronic valvular disease (CVD). While the condition is mild and doesn’t currently require medication, it remains a focus of her ongoing care. Regular echocardiograms and monitoring have been part of her comprehensive treatment plan.

🐕 Today
Sophie’s determination shines as she continues to recover, showing improvement in her energy and appetite. Her family’s dedication, paired with advanced veterinary care, has given her the best chance to thrive.

Sophie’s journey highlights the importance of multidisciplinary care, combining surgery, oncology, and cardiology expertise to provide the best outcome for our beloved pets.

🐾 Patient Story: Gigi and Ollie’s Hanger Adventure! 🐾

Meet Ollie, a 1-year-old Golden Retriever with a knack for mischief, and his little sister, Gigi, a 5-month-old Golden Retriever pup! This morning, their owner found both pups suspiciously chewing on hanger bits, with the hook nowhere to be found. 🤔 Off to our emergency service they went!

X-rays revealed that both Ollie’s and Gigi’s stomachs had a mix of normal food—and possibly some small, non-obstructive hanger remnants. Thankfully, everything else in their bellies looked normal!

The plan? We’ll keep a close eye on them and may recheck after 12 hours if needed, just to be certain they’re clear of any lingering foreign material.

Stay tuned for more on Ollie and Gigi’s journey as they hopefully “hang up” their habit of munching on things they shouldn’t! 🐶🧡

Coral Springs Animal Hospital was established by Lloyd S. Meisels, D.V.M. in September 1977. The hospital occupied 2,500 square feet of rental space in a shopping center at the corners of Royal Palm Blvd. and University Drive in the City of Coral Springs. Since its opening, thanks to the support and acceptance of our pet owning clientele, the Coral Springs Animal Hospital has experienced consistent and dramatic growth. The practice which was started with just one doctor and two employees is now staffed by thirty one doctors and over one hundred employees. We have outgrown three buildings and continue to expand to ensure we are consistently meeting or exceeding the varying needs and desires of the large majority of the pet owning public. We are now the largest privately owned animal hospital in the state of Florida and one of the largest in the United States.
