Last week at Dog U, the dogs enjoyed some auditory enrichment! They listened to a variety of everyday sounds...from whistling to horns to squeakers. Enjoy some of their fun reactions!
Ali & Jinx
Here's another installment of JDPC's Canine Enrichment tips...
While we wait for our lives to get back to normal, we hope you and your dogs are able to spend more quality time together. How about going for a walk between Zoom meetings?!!?
Here's Ali and her dog, Jinx (Golden Retriever), practicing safe walking. Teaching your dog to sit prior to crossing a street is always a good idea. Don't forget to look both ways, Jinx! π

A Gentle Dog Nail Clip Using Calming Voice & Yawning at Just D...
"There's always a way... either under or over or through"
That's a quote I once saw on the wall at a friend's house. Case in point: this video of one of our dog daycare clients getting a nail clip at Just Dogs PlayCare, Inc. He was too reactive for a nail clip elsewhere, and a vet suggested giving him calming drugs and trying it another time. So the mom asked us to give it a try. We thought there might be a "way"... by trying a gentle calming approach. We started with lots of petting and belly rubs. For safety, we then put on a muzzle. Four of us held and massaged him, doing lots of calming, reassuring talk (not babying, more like coaching). You'll hear us doing lots of fake yawning. That's a calming signal in the dog world. Yawning is something dogs do to calm down themselves or a situation. We're happy to report that we found "a way" that worked for this dog. π. He showed minor reactivity, as you will see, but we were able to calm him each time. The most dangerous thing that happened was when he tried to kill me with a broom at the end!π
This approach and hold isn't right for every dog. We work to figure out if we can find "a way--either under or over or through." Sometimes we don't succeed and cannot do the grooming service. But we are happy to show a success story!
What works best for your dog's nail clips? Two holders? Treats? We'd love to hear!
Pool Time!
These pups know just how to stay cool in the hot summer months-- and it doesn't involve staying dry! This video showcases some of the visitors of Just Dogs PlayCare splish-splashing around in the pool and playing with the hose. All we need are some surfboards!
