Peppermint and her Patties pupdate!
Pups are almost fully weened. They started solid food at 3 weeks, and we're nursing 3x a day after they eat their puppy food.
The pups are 8 weeks old now, and we try to fill their bellies first with their puppy food before we release mom with pups, to help the weening proces.
Peppermint is gentle but firm in correcting them, and persuading them that they are getting too big for nursing, and we help her using a squirter bottle if pups keep trying after she says that is enough.
In this video Peppermint shows what every mom must feel like with 4 little ones. She just wants a minute to enjoy her bone while they entertain themselves.
But here come the kids...mom can I have what you have...mom I'm hungry....and mom has to correct Rua, that even though Rua is thirsty, mom let's her know there's water a foot away, and milk is not on the menu.
Peppermint is such a good mom and good dog and will need a home soon as well as all the puppies.

Feyre progress report.....after 2 days of doting on her and gentle handling, and giving her treats during every contact, Feyre is blooming and coming around.
We just started using treats for training to sit, and we play a game called "who can sit" and basically after pups are fed, and get their morning play session for an hour, there's a golden time period right before they crash, and we try to seize that time by breaking out their "A" treats( #kahootsfeedandpet brand turkey and cranberry) and pick each of them up for a snuggle, quick clean with baby wipes, praise and treat.
During this all the puppies start gathering around wanting to be next. At this point you have their attention, although attention span is only about 10 seconds(if your lucky).
Now you start asking "who can sit?" and as they sit give them a half thumbnail piece of treat, very very small piece.
And doesn't take long before it clicks.
In this video we have their attention, and it's so good to see Freya come looking for attention herself, and sitting for a treat.
Thanks so much to Red Rose Inspiration for Animals for saving them, and sponsoring their care , CAASR for providing a safe place for them to zbe born, and our family for all playing a part in our rescue mission.
Puppies sitting in this video are RUA,SPIDEY, and the very special FREYE!
They are 7 weeks old, have first shots, and we are taking applications now.
Furever home needs a secure yard,5ft fence minimum, and home check.
Pups will have to be spayed or neutered before adopting.
If interested please send our page a message.
First tennis ball....Rua is the most responsive and attentive, so focus with pack training will be Rua, and others will pick it up watching her....that's my crazy method....our goal with all the puppies is to have them able to have good recall when called...be able to sit when asked, and able to retrieve....there is usually 1 puppy that has more focus, and we try to instruct that pup, and soon the others start absorbing what's going on....sounds wacky but it works to some degree....lol
Peppermint is a very good girl...and after she is finished nursing the pups, and after her spay, she will need a loving home.
She gets along good with other dogs, very affectionate after she gets to know you, and very playful.
She was taken in on St Patricks day pregnant, and ended up on the Euthanasia list at MCACC West and was on her last hours when Red Rose Inspiration for Animals decided she needed to live and have her pups.
Ny Stacey helped us get her pulled and we transported her to Mitzie at CAASR as we didn't have a safe space set up for her here. CAASR did an awesome job as Peppermint had her pups.
A month later we made a nursery in our living room and brought her here.
She is an incredible mom, very very attentive, loving, and loves playing with them and teaching them important social skills and be a great example.
She was frightened and shy the day we pulled her from the shelter, but thanks to CAASR she became more relaxed and started to blossom into the dog God created her to be.
She has since learned to sit, and just yesterday picked up on how to give her paw.
She loves to be held and loved on, and loves playing with her pups the most.
She is around 2 yrs old and will make a great furkid.
If interested please send an email to Sheryl at [email protected].
Her adoption fee is 225.00 and includes spay, shots, and chipped.
