Big shout out to my newest top fans! 💎 Melissa Kutcher
I started this business to help puppies and older dogs be better companions for their owners. After a lot of searching for training options, only to find that every one of them are more than 50 miles away, I decided, Hey I can do this. It all started with a liter of puppies from the back of RayCo. Father’s day of 2019 changed everything. Like many people who feel sorry for puppies but did not want the responsibility of them, my husband and I said no, we don’t need any more dogs. We have a senior dog already that needs a lot of care. But the Good Lord had different plans. Our daughters’ brought home 4 of the 8 puppies from RayCo. To say we were upset was an understatement. But one look at little Pretzel and I was sprung! We took them all in. Our oldest daughter kept one for her husband. So we had 3 little adorable Mountain Cur/lab mix puppies that completely stole our hearts. We tried to re-home them but failed. Eventually some one mentioned Amber Austin with Lead Me Home Rescue and the journey began. Within 2 weeks they were all house broke. Amber gave us a crate for them and within days they were crate trained as well. While we had them and waited for some one to adopt them, I decided that I would start training them like I have done with all my personal dogs that I’ve had through out my life. Todd was given away before Amber stepped in. So we had two left, Pretzel and Sadie. After 5 weeks of trying to catch the remaining puppies, we managed to catch Molly. She was the runt of the bunch and very much scared of what was to come. Little did she know that she would be showered with love and never have to worry about where her next meal would come from. She was only 8 lbs when we rescued her. So now we have 3. By the time they were adopted out in October, they were walking on a leash, doing commands like sit, down, come, leave it and drop it. While we had them we enjoyed every minute of it! Was it hectic? yes it was. But when we would go to the game room to play our favorite game Destiny, they would all come into the room and surround me on the futon. They were very grateful and loving and so full of snuggles and cuddles. We wanted to keep them all, but knew we could not. They all had their own little personalities. I researched the breed of dog they were and researched some more on training and come across therapy dogs. I talked with several other trainers and training facilities within a 100 mile radius. Some gave me tips, some turned me away. At that point, this is when I decided I wanted to take a long time passion and love of all animals and help them to help people. While we had them, we took them to the local Pet Sense store to socialize them with more people. Each time we took them in they were more well mannered than the last time we were there. They loved being around people and all the attention they would get when we were there and treats too. For these puppies to be rescues, they were well mannered and socialized with the kids in our neighborhood. We cried when we put them on the transport truck, Sadie and Molly. But I knew they were going to be loved and spoiled to no end. I talked with the adopter that wanted Molly first, sent pictures and videos to her. Anna fell in love with Molly instantly. Anna mentioned that her Father was also looking for a new dog, so I sent her a picture of Sadie. Not long after that, I received a phone call from Rich who instantly fell in love with Sadie from just one picture. For Sadie and Molly, they had a fairy tale ending. They both went to the same town within the same family and have play dates and are included in everything the families do. When I saw the picture of Rich taking Sadie into his arms and the emotions of love he had on his face, it filled my heart with so much joy and love, I was in tears in a good way of course. And Anna, the look on her face when she picked up little Molly was priceless. These puppies will forever hold a place in my heart as all the other puppies and dogs I have had over the years.
With Amber from Lead Me Home Rescue stepping in and helping us, I felt I needed to help her as well. I wanted to foster again, but I needed a minute to gather myself from heartbreak of giving up such precious puppies and she understood. So after a few weeks, she asked if I could dog sit two 6 month old hounds for her. I said sure, they are hounds. They were beautiful! They were use to being outside and having a doggy door, but when they came here, within one weekend, they were house broke. When Amber said ok I am coming to get them, I asked. Can I just keep them until they are adopted? And of course she said yes. While we had the hounds, not only were they house broke, they were also crate trained and I started the beginning of obedience training with them. They were a little unruly at first. But I managed to calm them down. I leashed trained them and they learned to sit and stay, down, leave it and drop it. Just basic starter commands. Hazel and Whitt were their names. We came to love them as well. We didn’t have the hounds long. Hazel was adopted out after only having her for 4 weeks and 2 weeks later Whitt was adopted. Again we cried as we put them on the transport truck, but knew that they had a loving home and owner waiting on them.
Through all this, I took the one I kept of the RayCo puppies and started training him more. I researched different training methods, drives and how to communicate with Pretzel in a better way. Pretzel now has his STAR Puppy and AKC CGC titles. We are currently working on the Urban CGC title and public access. But through all that training, I still foster and train for Lead Me Home Rescue. I had 2 Great Pyrenees. One of them, Luna aka Cora, I had for about 4 weeks, she was house broke, crate trained and had basic obedience training. Fisher aka Boone, I only had him for 6 days, but he was also crate trained and house broke with in that time frame. During this time is when I decided to go ahead and open my business. I did research and found that there is a need for the services I do. I take them in and house break, crate train and train according to the AKC STAR Puppy test within 4 weeks. My training methods are based on the dog and owner’s needs. Training will change according to what is needed and wanted. Just like people, every dog is different and I communicate and train accordingly to the specific needs of the dog/puppy.
So if you are wondering where the name come from.... Destiny, Bungie. I hope this gives you a better understanding of what I do and why I do it. It also helps me as well, being surrounded by puppies and dogs of all ages and different breeds. Even though I have been steadily doing training for about 8 months, I have actually been training my own dogs since I was 8 years old. You will see more about that in the website when it is finished some time soon.
Thank you to my top fans and for all the likes, shares, comments and recommendations. Also a huge Thank you to Scott Wilson, he has been a tremendous help and mentor to me. Mr. Scott is the Volunteer Companion Trainer for Wild Rose Kennels. And of course Amber Austin, Lead Me Home Rescue. She has taught me a lot as well and has helped me with crates, collars and leashes. We have become great friends along the way through the love of dogs and wanting to make a difference for the underdog!
