Would you ever believe that we got this much hair without using a brush except a final comb through? Here at Laurels Little Lions we take pride in our very thorough desheds while taking excellent care of your pets coat. With our continued education and dedication to our clients, we strive to not only keep our clients happy, but their pets too.

Using a Furminator or rake too often on your dog’s coat can actually do more harm than good. Here’s why:

1. Skin Irritation: Overuse can irritate or even break the skin, especially on short-haired or sensitive-skinned breeds.

2. Damage to the Coat: Using these tools too frequently can strip out healthy coat and cause the fur to become thin, brittle, or uneven.

3. Loss of Guard Hairs: In double-coated breeds (like Huskies, Golden Retrievers, or German Shepherds), over-raking can remove the protective topcoat (guard hairs), which helps regulate temperature and shield from UV rays or moisture.

4. Increased Shedding or Matting: Ironically, overdoing it can make shedding worse by disturbing the natural growth cycle, or cause patchy regrowth that tangles more easily.

This past Saturday my grandmother passed away unexpectedly. Today is her funeral and I was unable to attend, so in her honor all the dogs will be wearing yellow bandanas, yellow was her favorite color and this Is my way of remembering her warmth and light.

I make this post as I will be taking time off April 4th-10th for myself and will be leaving my amazing baby groomer Nita in charge. This is the very first time that I’ve taken time off and kept the shop open so I kindly ask that everyone shows her patience, understanding and kindness.

Please also be patient when calling or trying to schedule—we’re doing our absolute best to get everyone in as quickly as possible, and your grace during this time means more than you know.

✨ Friendly reminder to our valued clients ✨

As the snow has begun to melt we have noticed and also been informed by others that there is a tremendous amount of dog p**p in the grass across the parking lot. It is your job to clean up your pups mess, not our responsibility. Being that this is an on going issue we have put up cameras and will be watching, anyone who does not clean up after their animals will be charged an extra 15 dollars with their groom. We understand that we forget to grab p**p bags, so we would like to let everyone know that if that is to happen please come inside and ask us for one!
