A pet first aid kit is a must-have for all owners. Hazards are everywhere and you never know when an accident will happen. Having the tools and knowledge regarding basic first aid can be very useful to stabilize your pet until it can be seen by a veterinarian in an urgent situation.
The ASPCA has a great guide for building your kit.

Happy Labor Day weekend everyone! We will be closed Monday 9/2 for the holiday and will reopen on Tuesday 9/3 at 8am.

Just a few reminders:
- We no longer have Sunday hours, please plan boarding reservations and medication pickup accordingly, medications can take up to 48 business hours to fill. If you need accomidations for boarding pick-up please call and a staff member may be able to assist you.
- Our phone number is still 607-962-5905, however we no longer recieve texts on it. Our new texting number is 607-900-4799.

Hi everyone, we are hosting a summer photo contest. Put the picture you'd like to participate with in the comment section. The photo with the most likes wins. The winner will receive a summer themed gift box!

Rules:
-The pictures main focus must be your pet (examples attached to post)
-Must be a current client to participate
-Must be liking/following our page
-Only 1 entry per client
-Anyone can vote including non clients
- Pictures can be funny but keep them respectful

Last day to join the contest will be June 28th and voting ends July 5th

Meet our newest Dr.!
This is Dr. Matilda Solinger. She has been with us at Corning Animal Hospital since the fall. She previously worked with large farm animals but has since switched to working with companion animals and we couldn't be happier to have her here with us!
Dr. Solinger chose a career in veterinary medicine because of a fascination with physiology combine with the desire to help the human-animal bond. Her favorite part of the job is being a part of an excellent team that works together to help animals remain healthy and owners understand how to best care for their pets. And it helps that Marshmallow is adorable and chooses to sleep on her desk every day.
A fun fact about her is that she has 9 siblings and loves being an Aunt to her many nieces and nephews.

April is Heartworm Awareness Month!
Heartworms are parasites that get transferred from one pet to another by pesky little mosquitos! These worms can grow up to a foot long and live in the heart, lungs, and blood vessels. As you can imagine, this can cause severe lung disease, heart failure, and damage to other organs. If this is not caught early enough, it can be very expensive to treat and usually fatal. For this reason, annual testing and year round prevention is recommended!

For the remainder of April if you have your dog screened for heartworm or buy a 6 pack of Simparica Trio, and tell the assistant/tech working with you that you saw this Facebook post we'll give you a free dose of Simparica Trio. This is a monthly preventative used to combat heartworm, fleas, and ticks!

If you'd like more information on heartworm disease The American Heartworm Society is a great source.

In honor of Veterinary Practice Manager Appreciation week we would like to thank Jamie Golden for everything she does for us at Corning Animal Hospital.
Jamie started working here as an entry level staff member in 1998. Through her hard work and dedication she has gained experience and knowledge in all areas of our practice. For the past several years Jamie has been our practice manager. In that role she has guided us through many changes and challenges and is always looking for ways to improve how we do the things we do. She wears many hats, and is usually working behind the scenes where she does not always get the recognition she deserves.
