Last but certainly not least is Keith, who is usually accompanied by Sheena but she could not make it to this show. He has taken us under his wing so to speak and has been helping us to learn the ins and outs of the carts and hitches. He has been a wealth of knowledge that he willing gives us. Always quick with wit, he keeps us on our toes, literally.
He has been driving Illusion Farm Samuel Strong and Illusion Farms Rustic Elegance. They earned a 4th in men’s cart, 3rd in two horse hitch, and second in the unicorn.

Our next spotlight is on James! A jack of all trades he helps us with various things around the farm and it’s not uncommon to hear someone asking for his help to move something. He has also helped start most of these horses that are driving by giving them the confidence they need by dragging tires first then moving up to a cart.
He is showing Eastoft Delegate who was 2nd in stallions 3yrs & older and 5th in mens cart. Northfield’s Mattie Murdoch is another who placed 1st in yearling mares and was junior champion along with two 1st places in get of sire and produce of dam.

Becky is our self proclaimed mother of the group. Making sure everyone is fed, setting up sleeping arrangements, and just about everything in between. She also does all the bathing on our horses so if you are wondering how they sparkle so well I’ll set up a time so you can talk. It is no small undertaking.
She has been showing Horsmans Master who was the winner of the stallion age 3 and over class, and grand champion stallion. She showed Northfield’s Springtime Melody in yearling fillies which earned them a 3rd place along with a 2nd in get of sire and produce of dam classes. Becky also drove Hidden Treasures Betsey for a 5th place ribbon in ladies cart.

I’m sure many of you already know our next person as she most likely your equine vet! Martha has been showing with us for a few years now. We sneak thieved her into drafts at a show in Cumberland and the rest was history. She was great friends with Kathleen Hathaway and was excited to see us start our shire journey. Her braiding skills are also hard to beat. She shows Illusion Farms Rustic Elegance who won her broodmare class, was reserve mare champion, and 1st in produce of dam. She also shows Illusion Farms Samuel Strong who won his gelding class and was champion gelding.

Kaitlyn is our newest addition to our farm family! When we asked her if she would like to show with us this year she jumped at the chance, throwing herself in wholeheartedly. She has been our groom, chaser, and is showing Rich Farms Slyvee who won her 3 yr old mare class. She is also showing Denise Joy’s shire Illusions LBF Luke SkyWalker who placed 2nd in the gelding class, get of sire and produce of dam.

Next up we have Kerri! I don’t have many pictures of her from this show unfortunately. This is her first year showing but she has been going with us for several years now. She is usually our camera person and has gotten many amazing pictures of our crew. She’s also been our groom, graphic designer, and one of our braiding team. We are fortunate to have her and her willingness to try new things.
She is showing Northfield’s Elegant Maya. She placed 2nd in yearling fillies and was reserve junior champion mare. 1st in get of sire.

Brett showing Hidden Treasures Betsey, our only percheron of the group. Without his help we wouldn’t be traveling to many of these shows as he has supplied our trailers, hitch wagon and so much more. He’s always on the lookout for the next piece we need in our line up. Thank you for always being the behind the scenes support.
This was his first time driving Betsy at a show and they did great! Together they earned themselves a second in halter and a sixth in men’s cart.

I’m going to kind of do things differently as far as posting photos and results. It will probably take a couple days but I feel with the amount of horses we had, classes entered, and people that helped us over the past couple of days everyone should get their time to shine and be appreciated, not be generalized into one post. So this post is just a generalized photo dump that shows some of the work involved with getting to the show and prep at the show.
I will give a shout out right now to Sara though for holding down the fort while we are away and being a general dog wrangler! Without her we wouldn’t be able to do this!

So we don’t have very many pictures from Topsham Fair this year as we were so busy with nine horses! Yes you heard that correctly, we like to keep ourselves rocking and rolling!
There were a bunch of firsts for many. The yearlings went to their first outing and they were rockstars. We couldn’t have asked for them to be any better.
Sammy and Delegate had their first official outings in cart and did amazing earning themselves a first and second in the men’s group.
Our show stealer was Master, earning himself the stallion championship and the overall show grand champion!
Promise to try to get more photos next time as we know you all enjoy seeing them! Thank you to everyone that helped us today. It takes a village to pull this all off and have the horses looking their best, you all came through with flying colors.

Today was another amazing day of learning and trying new things! I unfortunately don’t have pictures of everyone and all the horses but fun and learning was had all around. Denise and Lyle came with Luke and stayed the day working on his driving. We brought out the hitch wagon to make sure everything was good to go before heading to a show. Brett and James got to drive the hitch wagon and we tried our hand at a unicorn with Keith. From giving horses a confidence boost or asking her to be the lead in the unicorn,Betsy is worth her weight in gold! I’m sure I’ve forgotten something else that we’ve done today 🤣

07/27/2024

And then Keith had an idea… to which of course we said let’s try it! I’d say it went quite well for their first time!

07/27/2024

Played with some bigger toys today! More videos and photos to come!

Horsmans Master and Ollie having some ring time together yesterday. Make it easy, make it fun and later on nothing is a big deal when you need them to be on point.

Deighton Samuel and Kaylee working on some ground driving. Absolutely have to love how good natured this stallion is.

Today was Ossipee Fair day! Everyone did well placing in every class and Ollie won the draft pony championship! It was his first outing being shown, I’d say he has a bright future ahead!
We unfortunately had to make the decision to not drive at the fair so we came home with a bunch of friends and played instead, having a complete blast. We hooked Ellie and Sammy together for the first time and Master proved what smooth character he is, acing his first time in cart.
Our other big announcement is that we are now sponsored by Windham Blue Seal! With their generous sponsorship we will be able to focus on giving our horses the best support nutritionally so we can continue to move forward with our preservation and showing of the endangered shire breed.

Just in case anyone is looking for a well minded, smart but always finding the dirtiest spots to roll c**t. 🤷🏼‍♀️🤣

Look who’s growing up! Absolutely love that we have Betsy to help get these guys started as she will take none of their ridiculousness. Go means go, stop means stop, and they better turn when she does! 😂
