No muzzle, racing to bite, screeching or lunging. I just communicate with him via sign language and energy. He has come a LOONG way!

Play Management:
When I put dogs together I know the energy level of each dog. I also know they will have a strong response to recall, āoutā, or another command I issue.
1. Stay out of it - Humans want to dictate how the dogs play. They jump up and down, clap, stomp their feet, yell āgo get āemā etc. Stop that! Thatās not how dogs approach play and they donāt need a Director and Producer involved!
2. Keep an eye on energy levels. If one dog is shifting into a higher gear and the other is not comfortable, engaging or avoiding, stop the play. If both dogs seem to be entering a high state too quickly you want to provide a break in intensity.
3. Some breeds play more intense than others. Know the breed characteristics. However, a breed is not a free pass for a dog to be rude or cross the line. Teach your dog limits.
I stop play and offer breaks every few minutes or when I see the intensity building to a level where they need an intermission. I donāt wait for it to get out of hand and then try to stop it.

A solo walk with your dog should feel like a peaceful experience. Similarly, walking with another dog, a group of dogs, or even someone other than the owner shouldnāt be stressful or chaotic.
Rogan is staying with me for a few days, and this was his first long walk with Caliāand his first time without his owner. He did amazing! His mom has been putting in the work with leash training during our private sessions, and itās truly paying off!
Now is the perfect time to sign up for classes, private sessions, or pack walks, so you can enjoy stress-free outings with your dog too. Check the link in my bio for training details!

Cheesecakeās mom adopted a deaf, anxious and reactive dog with a history of biting and screaming. Itās unclear how much of his behavior is due to his genetics or past experiences, but one thing is certain: feeling sorry for him or avoiding setting rules and boundaries would have left him stuck in this state forever. Many people canāt imagine āpunishingā a dog for this kind of behavior, but I prefer to explain it in terms of *correcting*. A correction is about providing the dog with information on what to do *instead* of engaging in the unwanted behavior. Simply reacting to the behavior doesnāt help the dog. Itās about giving him an outlet and clarity for whatās expected in the future.
Let me be absolutely clear: You cannot change behavior that happens outside the home without having structure, rules and boundaries *inside* the home. Period. No exceptions.
Cheesecakeās mom has worked tirelessly. Sheās done private training sessions with me and attended nearly every class, pack walk, and workshop Iāve hosted. Dog training isnāt about fixing a dog in an hour. Some dogs adjust quickly, while others take more time. There will be setbacks and adjustments along the way, but freely, but thatās not the end of the world. Crating him has worked wonders, and using an e-collar has brought much-needed clarity. He rarely needs the e-collar because wireless communication is being replaced with knowledge and check-ins with Mom. The leash does most of the talking. Heās wearing the ecollar much like we wear a seatbelt ā¦ in case.. ifā¦ not as a crutch.
The transformation has been incredible to watch and Iām honored to be a part of it! šš»
