Miles & Rose graduated from our In-Home Kickstarter program today! They learned impulse control, as well as how to come when called and walk on a loose leash. Perhaps most importantly, they stopped jumping to greet people!
When Taz’ owners called me for help, they had stopped inviting people to their home because of his reactivity to strangers. He was wary and wouldn’t come near me at first. 3 lessons in and he is not only recalling for his owners and walking nicely on a leash, but letting me play fetch with his favorite ball! Attention Corpus Christi pet owners! The City has passed new ordinance requirements that will take effect on October 1st. This is in addition to the previously passed micro-chipping requirement.
The newly amended ordinance will require a $50 annual permit fee for ownership of cats or dogs older than 6 months that are not spayed or neutered.
There is also an update regarding care and control of dangerous and aggressive dogs. Some of the recent news has been misleading as they often mention "aggressive dog breeds." However, designation of a dog as "dangerous" or "aggressive" is based on a case-by-case examination of the animal's behavior by city animal care services staff. There is no such list of "aggressive breeds" as the ordinance is currently written.

Owning a cat or dog in Corpus Christi may be more expensive as the city implements a new ordinance. This will only affect those with pets that aren't spayed or neutered.
The Atlantic Hurricane season officially begins June 1st, but there is a lot you can do to prepare your furry family members before then:
1. Make sure your pets have collars/ tags with updated contact information and get them micro-chipped.
2. Have a leash or carrier and appropriate equipment for a car ride.
3. Develop a simple evacuation plan that includes pet-friendly lodging.
