During times of extreme cold temperatures, all pets should be brought inside. A good rule of thumb is that if you're cold outside, so is your pet.

According to chapter 6 ordinance, bedding must be provided in enclosures when temperatures drop to 50°F or below, and it's unlawful to leave pets outside in freezing conditions. Violations may result in fines and animal cruelty charges. To report a violation, call 311 or 361-886-2600 (after hours).

🌡️ Cold Temperatures are Here: Pet Safety Reminder 🐾 As cold weather settles in, we urge residents to keep pets safe and warm.
🐶 When It’s Below 50°F: Ensure outdoor pets have a weatherproof shelter with bedding to stay cozy and comfortable.
🐾 Check Your Cars: Cats and small animals may seek shelter under vehicles—look before you start!
🚨 See a Pet in Distress? Call 311 or use the free 311 app to report concerns.
🐕 No Pets in Cars: Cold weather can turn cars into refrigerators, so never leave pets unattended.
❄️ Pets must be brought indoors if the temperature reaches 32° F or below. It is important to remember that if it’s too cold for you to be outdoors, it is too cold for your pets.
