The dogs always love when they’re welcome in the kitchen. Today was no exception. Normally, I purchase a supplement and additional fat to add on to their whole prey meat (under the guidance of our canine nutritionist). The supplement contains lots of wholesome (and obviously dog friendly) fruits and veggies, probiotics, seeds, vitamins and minerals, plus the organ meat they need. But today I tried to make my own whole meal. I used a food processor for the “supplement”, then grinder for the chicken, pork, beef and beef fat, added in their herbs and Origins, and then mixed it all together in their correct percentages. The dogs prefer it not to be grinded and love getting to break the bone down themselves but the whole meal grinded up and not needing measured out by each ingredient is awesome for me. It was some work to get it done and took about 4.5-5 hours from start to finish. But, so much cheaper than high quality dog food and SO MUCH better for them. The dogs love meal prep time… probably for the freebies they get as I cut and prepare. They’re pretty rotten! But on a serious note, we have chosen to feed our dogs a raw diet. We add in several things and consult with a canine nutritionist. We’re lucky to have Christie with @luciesfoodfordogs who prepares the organ meat based supplement and whole meats, and who gives us guidance as needed. We also utilize a couple add ins. The main additive I love (and have loved for years for both our dogs and other blends for our horses) is the Canine Essential Immune herb blend by @for_love_of_the_horse I truly believe in supporting the body from the inside out. Sweet Aunt Sparkles and babies enjoying some sunshine today. We have one, possibly two, spots (one spot will hopefully be for service or therapy work) open back up on this litters reservation list. Babies will have their temperament testing done a week from Monday and structural evaluations next week as well. Then, once we’ve made our selection, we will begin matching puppies with homes. We’re so excited to see who is whose!!!!!

These kids are growing fast! They have been introduced to several different novelty and play items. They have a potty tray now and are using it for most pottying. They get to explore new areas of our home and have met all the dogs of our pack. They also had their first face shaves! As part of our puppy protocol while a litter is with us, we introduced babies to novelty items. These item exposures are conducted in the whelping box in a gentle and safe manner. Children are not allowed during the initial introduction. The exposures are conducted from week 3 to week 4 and nothing is done in an unpredictable manner. Pups are not stressed or overstimulated during the exposures. The goal of these activities is to build trust and have fun.

We feel that our strict and proven protocol has helped us with successful placement of our puppies, whether it be in family homes, therapy work, service work, and everything in between. It has also helped our puppies exhibit less stress when they go to new homes and begin life with their new families.
