A canine dental cleaning is a full anesthetic procedure.
It requires a consultation appointment in order to get scheduled appropriately per level of dental disease.
The day of the dental a customized anesthetic plan is made based off of age, weight bloodwork, preanesthetic EKG and doctor exam.
Full mouth radiographs are taken to assess root health and allows us to see hidden fractures and pockets.
Next a full scale is done before the doctor examines the patients mouth.
If extractions are needed those are performed by the doctor next.
Once the extractions are complete a polish is done on the remaining teeth then rinsed.
This process is completed one side first then the patient is turned over for the other side to be completed.

It is a common misbelief in our area that we do not have fleas and ticks. We in fact have several species of each. One of the species special to our area is the Stick Tite Flea, these tiny little buggers like to embed around your pets ears and face. They have been known to also embed on humans as well. One of the unique ticks we have is the Spinose Ear Tick. They are often found around sage brush and cattle.
It is very important use flea and tick prevention as these external parasites can cause life altering diseases.

Hope everyone is headed into a good weekend. This was a case that came in yesterday. GROSS! Heartworm larva in a dog’s blood! These little babies grow into adults and lodge in a dogs heart, causing even more problems.
It’s a good reminder to pickup heartworm prevention for your canine companions. We recommend once a month dosing at least May through October. As always, if you have ANY questions don’t hesitate to call.
