*appreciation post*

Lisa here, and I really think this job is the coolest gig. I learn something from the dogs and people I work with Every. Single. Day.

Puppies. *sigh* ... PUPPIES ARE HARD! When you are raising them you go through emotional, mental, and physical pain and stress. One day is perfect, the next day is the worst. You bleed. You lose sleep. You learn things, then you UNlearn things. You experience joy and fear and frustration and love and despair. You get it all with a puppy (and probably with any new dog, really). It is incredibly difficult to maintain your composure and perspective. I get it.

Vincent the Brittany has been with us from the start. His mom and I go way back. He is a little over 5 months old now and is starting to really blossom. His mom has shown continuous and incredible patience and foresight. She reminds me how important those things are.

This little guy has gone from a biting, pulling, chewing machine (I was worried there for a minute), to a funny, responsive, RESILIENT pup. And it is all due to consistent love, boundaries, exercise, training, and TIME. and treats and toys and chewies and friends and car rides and and and...

I can't say enough about how grateful I am for the trust of the people who choose Valley Wags to work with their beloved dogs. Their sidekicks. Their friends.

This was a very good day, and I am so thankful.

Enrichment doesn’t need to be fancy or complicated - it just needs to be fun and effective. Baloo helped his mom shred some papers, and his new paper nest doubled as scent-game hides after his walk. Giving dogs chances to do normal dog things supports their unique needs and leads to better behavior.

WHAT A BEAUTIFUL DAY! We had a lovely hike today with Obi , Jackie, Inman, and Lumi. We think Obi and Jackie might be new best friends 🧡

An easy way to feed small-ish pills to your dog is to incorporate them into a rythym of feeding other treats.

If your dog is new to this, introduce the concept of the "different" treat, which will eventually be a pill, using a small kibble, or bit of other hard treat.

If your dog is already a known skeptic when it comes to treats or medications, this method will take more training, but can still be accomplished!

Lisa and Bridget had a big, wet hike with Lumi, Yen, Inman, and Jackie. A little bit of rain can’t scare us away!

We are so grateful to Lumi and Ginger for being excellent Valley Wags helper dogs.

Ginger is a quiet and calm presence for puppies, Lumi let's human students practice with him before they work with their own dog, and both of these critters are just amazing at meeting and greeting dogs with all sorts of temperaments as we work through everything from fear and trauma to frustration and pure choas.

They have been fast friends almost their whole lives and their love story feels like one for the ages. These pictures were taken just this week 🥰

I am a sucker for a sit down activity that gives my dog a lot of autonomy and activity.

To play, get out as many food holders as you have (bowls, plates tupperware, toys) and place them where you can reach them comfortably.

The game is simple, "reset" your dog by tossing a treat away from the food holders, allowing you to be sneaky and place a treat in just one of the food holders. Cue ''find it'' if you like and let your dog do their thing! Repeat!

Enjoy!

A whole group of puppies in a Puppy Training session playing with their people and largely ignoring each other!? Be still my heart.

Puppy Training sessions for puppies ages 12-20wks has been a huge success. This particular session started in the parking lot with passive socialization and focus exercises and the resulting indoor session was a smash!
