🦎 Leopard Gecko Fun Facts! 🦎

Check out these fascinating facts about our scaly friends, leopard geckos! 🦖👇

1️⃣ Indigenous to the Middle East and parts of Northern India.
2️⃣ Nearly all geckos have a voice! Leopard geckos can "bark" when agitated, but they aren’t as vocal as other geckos.
3️⃣ A gecko’s gender is determined by the incubation temperature:
🔥 90°F = mostly males
❄️ 80°F = mostly females
🌡️ 85°F = about equal males and females.
4️⃣ They are nocturnal, coming out at night to forage while avoiding the heat of the day.
5️⃣ Leopard geckos store fat in their tails, which they use during times when food is scarce.

1. Royal Companions: Pugs were cherished pets of Tibetan Buddhist monks, making them one of the oldest dog breeds, with records dating back to 400 B.C.! 🐶✨

2. Cuddle Buddies: Originally bred to be lap dogs for Chinese emperors, Pugs may not require as much exercise as some other breeds—perfect for snuggling! 💕

3. Wrinkles of Honor: Those cute face wrinkles are a badge of honor! Chinese breeders aimed to create a pattern resembling the character for "prince." 👑

🐢 We’re proud to be working alongside Dr. Claire Peterson from the Chintimini Wildlife Center and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to provide care for some Eastern box turtles that were rescued in a wildlife trafficking case. While we can’t share too many details due to an ongoing investigation, we’re honored to help these little ones on their road to recovery.

We wanted to share some box turtle love for Chintimini and Theia.

Chintimini Wildlife Center is an incredible asset to our community. Their team always goes above and beyond to care for injured wildlife. They have saved an unprecedented number of lives this year. Eastgate Veterinary Clinic is thrilled that these sweet, wild Eastern Box turtles will be in a safe environment thanks to Chintimini.

We are looking forward to visiting Theia again soon!

We are halfway to our goal of $1,200 for a beautiful new home for our new ambassador, Eastern Box Turtle Theia. She is getting used to being at Chintimini after an attempted wildlife trafficking brought her and 12 other box turtles to us.

Thanks to Dr. Robyn Lantz and the team at Eastgate Veterinary for helping us give Theia a full work-up and clean bill of health!

Now that she and her cohort has healed up, she is ready to be in a new home that she deserves, and help us to educate the community about wildlife trafficking! If you are interested in helping us get Theia a world-class new home, please donate at the link below!
