Winnie the Poo-chon is absolutely delightful, and I have thoroughly enjoyed our time together. Her progress has been remarkable, and the most impressive achievement is her understanding of her kennel as a sanctuary. I highly recommend utilizing a Kong to facilitate this process. She now confidently enters her kennel upon command, and her leash skills have significantly improved. A simple switch from a harness to a collar and some dedicated practice has resulted in a loose leash walk, with only occasional excitement-driven deviations. A gentle reminder brings her right back on track. Winnie's intelligence and capacity for growth are truly inspiring!
I have trouble getting my videos to post. We take a stroll down this path 3 or 4 times a day and work on recall. Panda heels to the right as that is how I taught her. I should have taught her to heel to the left, but at 11 years old I'm not changing it now. I have been working with Ash and Chim Chim to wait around corners and they did exceptionally well. I have been whistling for recall as they respond rather well to it.
I'm trying to teach Ash something very beneficial for her life. LOL playing dead. She has always struggled going to the down position, but is getting better. The next step is getting her to do it from a sitting position. Baby steps. Panda got a treat too because she stayed out of the way. What tricks do your dogs know?
I tried to post this last week and it didn't work. The last two Saturdays I have had a couple of these dogs run off after a raccoon. Whose fault was it?!? It was mine. I was working in my flower box and not paying attention and they smelled a raccoon and ran off. I work with obedience training every day but this is new to them. In the video you will hear my walking pace also. I forgot to turn it off it was such a good video that I didn't want to just start over. There's usually one that doesn't stay like they're supposed to! Post in the comments which one you think it is.

Worked on a little recall yesterday with the girls. I give Panda little more time to come as she is almost 11 years old. Started with only a minute of recall and will work up to 5. I hope working on recall prevents Ash from making some trips into Corydon! 🤷♀️
Took care of the cutest schnauzers I have ever seen this weekend. Thanks Krystal for trusting me with your doggies.
We've been working hard on recall over the summer! When I first started working with them one always broke the sit command and started to come to me before I released them. Which one do you think it was? They all stayed for over 30 seconds. They can stay for much longer and I will increase the time. They should be able to do it for 5 minutes or more. I will try that on a cooler day. Dogs need continual training so they know what is expected of them!
Is it orderly when your dogs enter your home? After almost getting mowed down by Chim Chim (heeler mix) I decided they needed rules when they entered our house. Chim is a bit high strung and needs rules.
I put them in a sit and they are not released until I say come. I am transitioning away from the stay command so they do get confused a bit at times when I don't use the command. It does make sense to me that it is not needed. I also found treats that they love! Must be the liver in them. Posted them in the comments!
I have some clients logging into the software and decided I didn't really introduce myself. I am a college Professor at IHCC during the school year and teach health science classes. I love my job. I also love animals and have the summer off so this allows me to do both things I love. I have been around animals all my life as my Dad was an avid hunter and he had a lot of hounds. I have been married for almost 30 years and have 3 children. I have three dogs; Panda a ten year old Aussie/border collie mix, Ash a 4 year old German shepherd, and Chim Chim is (around 4 we think) heeler mix. Chim was dumped at our house and we decided to keep her. I also have three cats; Cinder, Karen (Radley) (not her real name but she complains a lot 😂) and Fluffy (Rankin). I didn't like the names the kids gave them so I changed them. I am anxious to get started caring for your animals. I have posted a video of my dogs. I took them to a professional trainer. I am no trainer at all. I use what she taught me. Let me know if you have any questions.
