Hoosier Wildflowers & Highlands is a Indiana based Scottish Highland Cattle interaction and education experience. We also offer seasonal wildflower bouquets and you pick flower patch. We book cattle sessions by appointment only. All funds from the cattle interactions go toward Gracie's college fund and her hopes of becoming a veterinarian one day!

Gracie has been selected as the 2025 Jr. Angus Princess! If you didn’t know, she has been very involved with the Angus breed since birth. This is one of the things she is incredibly passionate about!

It’s been a 🥶COLD 🥶 week but the cows are staying warm in the barn with fresh bedding! #HappyNewYear #happycowshappylife #happycows #happycowshappyfarmer

New life on the farm is such a beautiful thing! While this is an Angus cow and calf being born, I thought it would be interesting for some to learn about the birthing process. 💗 We take a lot of pride in our cattle. We want females who are going to be able to calve, unassisted, produce above average milk, have a healthy sized calf, not too big +100 or too small -60. We want females that are protective but won’t kill you ( docility) and will wean their calves around 6 months around 700+ lbs. The sire ( bull) has a lot of influence on those EPD’s which we take into account as well when AI’ing ( Artificial Insemination) or selecting a cover bull. 💗You will notice this is a nice size calf, weighing in around 75 lbs, within minutes it was trying to stand up, within the first 30-45 mins it was nursing. The mother works very hard as soon as it comes out to clean it and dry it off. This is done by their only mean possible, licking it dry. She ingests the afterbirth and placental fluids which bonds her to that calf, helps the calf be stimulated to get up and going. 💗If you have more questions we would be happy to answer them!!
