🚨 Winter Weather is ahead and it looks to be very cold. The temperatures are going to be very dangerous for outdoor cats/dogs next week, especially Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday. If you have outdoor cats or other animals, please please please make sure they have a place to get out of the cold. On top of that they are forecasting quite a bit of snow and ice.

Use straw (NOT HAY) for bedding, they can burrow down inside that and keep themselves quite warm. Please remember do not use blankets or towels as bedding, these can retain moisture from the air and freeze, literally freezing cats to death as they sleep.

Even if you are just feeding outdoor cats or know where some are residing, please give them some options even if this is an upside down tote with a small doorway and filled with straw, or whatever you have. It is better than nothing I promise. We've already had one kitty come in with hypothermia, and I would really like to not have it happen again.

Kittens will be very susceptible to the cold. If you are feeding outdoor kittens or have a nursing mom on your property, please bring them into your garage or a bathroom, anywhere with shelter. The temperatures will get cold enough that they can freeze to death. Paws and ears will be susceptible to frostbite, please watch your outdoor animals very closely, and consider bringing them in for these 3 days.

Praying for all the homeless ones, that they will be okay 💙

Happy New Year everyone!

Bet you almost missed my tiny little self laying on my big foster brother didn't you? I kind of blend in don't you thinks?

I just want to say thank you for everything again, I get to see a whole new year! How exciting!

I was told today that Kentuckiana cat rescue was going through adoption applications that were put in for me. How exciting! I can't wait to be fixed and meet my new people! No rushing though. I've had a lot going on in my tiny life.

Some stability is necessary till I am all healed up.

I am thankful for all of you, who care so much and prayed so hard. I am thankful to my doctors and all my special people including my foster, and my foster brother. I am thankful for my new clothes, I'm just thankful for everything!

May the New Year give you lots to be thankful for too!

Loves,
CC ❤️🐾

At the beginning of the year, we set a goal to spay/neuter 800 cats and kittens. We weren’t quite able to reach that goal for a couple of reasons: 1) the clinic we’d been using closed, and 2) due to the abundance of cats and kittens everywhere needing spay neuter services, appointments at other clinics were few and far between.

BUT - we eventually found clinics that allotted us appointments (as many as they could) and as of this past Friday, we were able to get 611 cats and kittens spayed and neutered in 2024!!!!!
🎉🥳😻

Part of that number includes members of the public. Thank you to those who brought their kitties to us to be fixed. You’re helping with the enormous overpopulation problem as well as protecting your furry friends.

Let’s try again for 800 spays and neuters in 2025!

Hello Everyone,

It's me Carl! I hope Christmas Carol didn't let the cat out of the bag about my visit today... No pun intended 😏

Just thought I would give you an update:

I have an infection in my leg due to an injury but am on antibiotics. The rodent ulcers are showing improvement and I have some teeth that will need extracted later. My hematocrit is lower than it should be so I am anemic, which is the biggest concern so no surgery right now for me.

I am slowly getting less depressed, but it is hard when I don't feel my best. It takes me longer to heal from things because I have FIV. Don't count me out though! I got this!

I love my wet food, and I can't get enough. It's nice to have a warm place and consistent food.

They say I need iron. Bring me cooked liver please so I don't have to take this nasty supplement anymore 😆

Love Carl 🐾

🚨In response to the H5N1 food contamination and overall increasing risk, we are implementing protocol changes to keep our cats safe.

1) Increasing quarantine hold time from 10 days to 15 days on intake of healthy stray/outdoor cats.

2) Sick stray/outdoor cats showing symptoms of H5N1 will be rejected unless a pre intake vet check is obtained. If H5N1 is suspected or diagnosed, we will not be able to take the cat. While we know that this is not guaranteed to keep us safe, we are not going to knowingly put our cats at risk.

3)All intakes must be scheduled ahead of time to ensure we have space and staff availability. Do not bring a symptomatic cat into the building. Text us from your car.

4) We are asking people who work in the poultry industry to please change clothes/shower/disinfect before coming to visit our kitties.

Reasoning:

1)We have no way of knowing what food a stray/outdoor cat came into contact with prior to intake.

2)There is the added danger of contaminated food in trash cans since people will be throwing it away. Wildlife and stray cats may find it.

3)We have an obligation to do all we can to keep the cats in our care healthy and safe.

4)The risk of transmission from cats to humans is low. The risk of cat to cat transmission is extremely high. A virus like this can devastate a shelter.

*If you discard potentially contaminated items, please take proper precautions to protect healthy animals. Please consult with the State Board of Animal Health, or DNR if you see symptomatic wildlife.*

We are currently on intake hold due to being at capacity so we don't expect this to be an issue at this time but we want to be prepared.

We recently read a tragic story about a big cat sanctuary in Washington that lost over half of its population. I am including the link. If you love big cats, please consider sending them a donation as they work through this crisis.

If you have outdoor cats, please watch them closely. We have included some important information from the AVMA in the comments.

There is currently no vaccine available for this virus and it has a 60%-70% fatality rate in fully infected cats which becomes 100% without immediate veterinary intervention.

Bird flu has been on the rise in Washington state and one sanctuary was hit hard: 20 big cats – more than half of the facility’s population – died over the course of weeks.

🚨 Christmas Carol update!

Hi everyone! My Foster's amazing mom Vashti Mills made this cute little surgical recovery suit for me. Don't I look adorable? This way I don't have to wear that stupid little cone. I really wasn't fond of that. I am doing amazing and I love my food. I am very happy and playful, and will get to eat hard food very soon! That is something I haven't been able to do. I hope your Christmas was pawsome!

🚨FOOD RECALL ALERT! If you feed your cats a raw food diet, please read this to see if this is the brand you use! Bird flu is very dangerous to cats!

🚨Hi Everyone!

It me, Christmas Carol! I just want to tell you all how thankful I am for all the prayers, well wishes, shares, loves, and donations that got me through my surgery. I am doing so well, just a little sore. I can go to the bathroom again too! I'm so smart, I figured out the litter box already ❤️

I know that some may not think that my life is very important, but it is very important to me. That was so scary. Now, I will get to see my first Christmas because of you, my doctor and medical team, and my foster! My whole surgery was paid for by all of you amazing humans!

Thank you for caring about me. I'm so happy to be here and will live my bestest life, thanks to you!

If anyone is interested in adopting me in a few months, I would love that! I hope to meet my furrever family soon ❤️

Merry Christmas to all of you. May your holiday be full of love, catnip, and jingle bells 🐈‍⬛🐾

Love, CC

🚨THANK YOU! Due to the amazing caring folks in our community, Christmas Carol’s bill has been completely covered! To each and every one of you, thank you for the prayers, well wishes, shares and donations. We wish you the best Christmas ever! Update post to follow.

🚨Update pictures in comments! Surgery was a success and she is recovering. She did well and is recovering well. So far we have raised $648, thank you! Thank you Dr. Brooks and the amazing staff at Pet Vet, as well as to her amazing foster Lilly Mills 🥰

🚨Christmas Carol update. She is going in for surgery today. She has made so many gains over the last few days that the vet thinks that now is the time. She needs all the prayers and well wishes that she can get.

For those that don't know, this girl was found on the side of the road, soaking wet and freezing, nearly unconscious, inability to stand, lift her head or walk, with a mass between her legs that turned out to be an inguinal hernia. Her intestines are wrapped around her bladder. For the first two days she was completely immobile, and incontinent. And then a miracle happened. She stood up. She started walking. She started eating. It was a literal miracle.

This surgery is a lifesaving necessity. Without it her intestines could strangulate cutting off blood flow. The estimate is $1,100. I know it's Christmas and it's a tough time but we could definitely use some help towards her vet bill. Please help us give Christmas Carol her chance at a Christmas miracle.

You can call the vet directly:
PetVet365 Indiana /Jefferson Ridge
(812) 914-8005 and they will send you a text link to donate.

Or:

I have also included a Facebook donation link. Even $1 helps! If you can't donate, please share. Maybe somebody out there will see her story, you never know the contribution that you could cause with the simple act of sharing.
