Rambo🤍🤍

The basics of breed knowledge played a huge role in this big guys groom today. Rambo is a Great Pyrenees and by nature, Great Pyrs have a “self cleaning” coat. This means his fur will naturally fall out and deter dirt and dander since they are supposed to be strictly outside, livestock guardian dogs.

The natural self cleaning doesn’t always do it’s job 100% of the time, but I can guarantee you about 90% of the time what other groomers would consider to be “matted” with Pyrs is actually “impacted fur.” This means the fur that has been released from the skin to fall out has gotten trapped by the dirt and debris that’s coating the fur.

Anyone else would’ve shaved Rambo without hesitation because of how he looked/felt. I spent the first hour and a half of his groom hand stripping and going over the “mats” and guess what…. 95% of them were impacted fur that I was able to release and get a clean finish without having to shave him.

Grooming isn’t always easy or fun. I’ll be the first to admit that every time, but seeing before and afters like this makes it all worth while. I love what I do and I’ll always continue to advocate for my pups and educate their owners.

In total, Mr Rambo took me 3 and a half hours (that was rushing😅.) For it being his first groom EVER this big guy did PHENOMENAL!!! I love my Pyrs!!
