To everyone that is still supporting this cause, THANK YOU!!! This update was delayed because all of the trainers and boarders were scrambling to leave the OC fairgrounds by December 31, 2024, after the OC Fair board members and staff would not allow them to renew their leases. If the OC Fairgrounds management truly wanted to keep the equestrian center (renamed The Ranch) alive and well, why wouldn’t they allow horses to stay there? Know this - the horses may have had to move but the people are still fighting the good fight. The citizens of Orange County are asking the OC fairgrounds board members to show how they have been spending state funding and to justify their unethical practices. This is ongoing and officially being reviewed by the state.
Note that the CEO of the OC Fairgrounds would not submit the appropriate paperwork to allow the equestrian center/The Ranch to be an evacuation center for all of the horses and Los Angeles that were displaced by the extraordinary and horrific fires this month. Hundreds of horses had been displaced and many had asked to evacuate to Orange County. Because these horse owners were denied evacuation access, some of them had to go as far as San Diego to find a stall. These horses already went through incredible stress before they were made to travel even further to rest. It’s unnecessary and unfair. Historically, fairgrounds have existed to support the citizens and their animals and promote healthy agriculture.
