Yesterday evening shenanigans. Thunder was loud so we had to secure dogs in house to ease their stress of the loud bang from mother nature

We're feeling a little more exhausted than usual but I think it's mostly emotional fatigue. God thinks we can handle a little more, so we have 3 litters of puppies we need to grab before weeks end. Thank you everyone for your continued support. Please send your positive energy and prayers our way. We need to lift up.

It is with a very heavy heart that we share that Rocky had to be humanely euthanized today.
As many of you know, Rocky came to us in very poor condition after losing his mother and suffering significant injuries. While we had all hoped for a different outcome, further evaluation revealed that he had multiple injuries and complications that would have led to a slow and painful decline. The kindest gift we could give him was to spare him that suffering.
This decision was not made lightly. Like so many of you, we became deeply emotionally invested in Rocky in the short time he was with us. He touched a lot of hearts, and we know many of you were following his story, praying for him, and rooting for his recovery.
While our hearts are broken, we are grateful that Rocky did not have to face the end of his journey alone. He knew kindness, comfort, good food, gentle hands, and people who cared about him. We are thankful for every moment we were able to spend with him.
We want to sincerely thank everyone who offered prayers, encouragement, donations, advice, and support. Your compassion meant the world to us and to Rocky.
Sometimes rescue means finding a forever home. Sometimes rescue means giving an animal peace, dignity, and love when they need it most. We take comfort in knowing that Rocky experienced those things before he left us.
Run free, little man. You were loved more than you'll ever know. ❤️🐴

There comes a point when you have to decide where your energy is best spent.

At Run Around Dog Town Rescue, our focus has always been on helping dogs. That's it. Not politics. Not personal rivalries. Not tearing down other rescues.

Over the past several months, we have watched an individual repeatedly target, harass, and attempt to create problems for multiple animal rescues and advocates within our community. We have seen efforts directed toward damaging reputations, creating public controversy, and interfering with the work of people who are already sacrificing their time, money, and energy to help animals.

Quite frankly, we have no interest in being part of that.

Animal rescue is difficult enough. Most of us are already stretched beyond our limits. We spend our days trapping feral dogs, cleaning kennels, transporting animals, paying veterinary bills, finding fosters, and searching for adopters. The animals should be our focus.

Because of this, we will be reevaluating and, where necessary, ending relationships with individuals and organizations that choose to associate themselves with this type of behavior. This is not being done out of anger or retaliation. It is simply a decision to create distance between ourselves and unnecessary conflict.

We are not interested in fighting other rescues. We are not interested in competing with other rescues. We are not interested in being the loudest voice in the room.

We are interested in helping dogs.

The reality is that if people spent half as much time helping animals as they do attacking one another, many more lives would be saved.

Our path forward is simple: less drama, less politics, more rescue.

The dogs deserve nothing less.

ROCKY UPDATE 🐴❤️
Yesterday, we were very worried about Rocky.
When we found him, he was severely dehydrated and trapped in an area where he had no access to water. There were fences on both sides of the highway, no adult horses anywhere in sight, and no obvious way for him to reach safety. On top of that, he was dealing with a serious injury to his jaw. We still don't know exactly what caused it. It may have been the result of being struck by a vehicle, or possibly an injury from another horse. What we do know is that this little guy needed help.
Today, Rocky is doing remarkably well.
He's eating regularly and is now on a feeding schedule. His appetite is strong, and he's definitely not shy about mealtime. While he's still drooling quite a bit because of the jaw injury, we're monitoring him closely and taking things one day at a time.
Some of the symptoms that had us most concerned have improved significantly. The belly breathing has stopped, and the blood we were seeing yesterday in his saliva and from his nose is completely gone. He also had his first bowel movement since arriving, which is another encouraging sign that his body is starting to recover.
But the biggest improvement isn't physical.
The biggest improvement is trust.
Now when I sit down on the ground with him, Rocky will come over and lay down right beside me. Sometimes he'll even rest his head in my lap. Considering that he's only been with us for about a day, that's a huge step forward and tells me he's finally starting to feel safe.
I hate to admit it, but I'm falling in love with this little guy.
Thank you to everyone who has checked on him, shared his story, and kept him in your thoughts. We'll continue posting updates as Rocky's journey continues.

Just a quick reminder to our supporters and followers:
Run Around Dog Town Rescue is a veteran-run nonprofit program of Charles Cisneros VFW Post 9516 in Cerro, New Mexico, which serves as our fiscal sponsor.
Many people assume that rescues receive large amounts of funding, but the reality is that our small operation is powered by a combination of donations and personal sacrifice. While we are blessed to receive support from our community, a large portion of our day-to-day rescue expenses are paid out of pocket by Sharon and me.
From food and veterinary care to fuel, transportation, kennels, and emergency supplies, every dog we help represents a commitment to doing whatever it takes to give them a chance at a better life.
We are incredibly grateful to Charles Cisneros VFW Post 9516 for supporting our mission, and to every person who donates, volunteers, shares our posts, fosters, adopts, or simply cheers us on. You are all part of every life we save.
Thank you for standing with us and the dogs we serve. ❤️🐾
