This is our first post since the early days of our strange new world, and our first order of business is to introduce you to a new permanent resident at Doggy Houser MD.
Zsa Zsa appeared in the Mulberry tree in my front yard around this time last year--my first video of her on my phone was taken on September 11, 2020. I brought her into my screened in porch to see how she would react. She was flea-ridden and covered in scabs. Her meow was piercing and strained, and though she was frightened to be in a new place, she was desperately affectionate.
As much as I love cats, I was reluctant to take one in permanently for obvious reasons. I also wasn't sure how feral she was, and after locating her caretaker across the train tracks from my house, a kind woman who feeds a number of strays in the area, I assumed Zsa Zsa had just lost her way after a big storm blew down a tree on her property. Once safely returned to her feeding porch, I assumed she had been reunited with her crew.
The very next day, she was back on her perch in my tree, yowling for my attention through the branches. After assuring everyone I had no intention of taking in a cat, Zsa Zsa promptly moved into the spare room I had intended for my office (giving the whole house fleas in the process).
Today, Zsa Zsa rules this tiny kingdom with a spikey iron paw. She loves her dog guests and is very gracious to allow them to hang out in her domain, even on the bed if they ask nicely.
Now that more dog guests are stopping by for a stay as travel makes a comeback, Zsa Zsa is looking forward to meeting more new friends who play well with cats! She's come a long way from her tree-dwelling days, and we are so happy she chose us, and would not take No Cats Allowed for an answer.
