📣 JUNIOR TRAINERS PROGRAM!! Tell your friends!
Folks, we are SO EXCITED. We're partnering with a local rescue to achieve two goals.
1) Give kids in our area the opportunity to get informed, educated and empowered to interact with dogs.
2) Get pups adopted! At the end of our Junior Trainers 3-week program, we're facilitating an adoption event.
This program will focus on building a positive relationship between a junior handler and a pup. It will provide an educational experience for establishing appropriate behavior and techniques when it comes to interacting with a dog.
At the end of our Junior Trainer classes, we will facilitate an adoption event with the pups who have been handled by our Junior Trainers!
You do not need a dog at home in order to sign up for Junior Trainers.
Please use this link to register, and to read more about our new Junior Trainers program:
https://form.jotform.com/241554642645156
Even if you don't have kids aged 9-13, you can still support this program!
1) Please like and share this post - it helps this post reach folks that might not otherwise see it.
2) Mark your calendar (Monday, July 15th) for the adoption event that will showcase our Junior Trainers and the pups they have been handling. We'll announce more details about the adoption event soon, and we hope you'll come out to support our Junior Trainers!

Training starts the moment your pup enters your house.
Building a good pup takes time, and patience, and maybe a little help from the Pawsitive Influence Dog Training team!
Fear-reactivity can look like a lot of things.
🐾 Excessive barking
🐾 Difficulty settling down
🐾 Velcro-dog behavior
🐾 Separation anxiety
🐾 Destructive behavior
🐾 Hiding, skittish behavior
🐾 Resource guarding
Helping a reactive dog become a calm dog is possible!
It starts with examining YOUR behavior, and learning how your influence keeps your pup in over-stimulated state, instead of a calm state.
🐶 Do you have a puppy or adolescent dog?
🐶 Are you trying your best to give them a great life, but you’re encountering some struggles?
Please consider registering for our puppy class! Classes start this Saturday, June 8th. And we’ll help you get started on your journey to build a calm dog that can make great choices.

Giving your dog space to learn how to interface with new things is essential as a calm, confident and consistent pack leader.
Oberon used to be *offensively* reactive to most new things in his environment. It took time and consistent leadership for him to learn how to trust that his human would handle things and lead their pack.
If this looks like something you’re missing in your pack, reach out to us. We’d love to see if we’re a good fit to help!

Food and feeding times are an important resource to manage as a calm, confident and consistent pack leader.
Two of the pups in this pack (Dresden and Roxie) came from a free-feeding background. Although the transition from free-feeding had a few moments of struggle, both dogs now love the cadence and reliability of pack meal times.

Beginner Puppy Class registration is OPEN for our next cohort, and we don't want you to miss it.
We believe that calm dogs make good choices.
In keeping with that training philosophy, our puppy classes are more than teaching Sit, Stay, Come.
Those are great (and essential!) skills. But more important are learning things like how to be patient, how to self-soothe, how to remain calm in new settings, etc., and that’s what we focus on in puppy class.
Sit, Stay, and Come are skills that your pup will develop as a byproduct of buying in to your calm and consistent leadership role.
If that sounds like the kind of holistic pack leadership you'd like to learn more about, we'd love to help!
Have you ever wondered how to help your puppy learn to be calm? Would you like your puppy to make better choices?

Semi-structured two-stick fetch and recall building.
Hey folks! Our intermediate and advanced puppy classes have been working on recall this week, and the question came up, “What should I do if my puppy wants to zoom around in the yard and not come back to me?”.
This week Christina’s pack had their first-ever interaction with a woodpecker in the yard.
SUPER high value distraction. Very difficult to recall off of a woodpecker attacking your favorite tree.
Sigrun, especially, thought the woodpecker was WAY more interesting than her human.
Here’s what we do:
Practice. Then practice some more. Practice when pups are calm, especially. If you wait to practice recall when they're already fixated on something more exciting than you (woodpeckers, haha), you've lost the battle.
Practice. Then practice some more.
Please notice that we’re not asking for extra stuff (sit, wait, etc.)., We’re rewarding the actual moment of RECALL with more fun movement.
As always, reach out with any questions!

Hey folks!
Several of you contacted us with a ton of great questions and observations about the "Find It!" video that Christina posted of Oberon earlier this week. One of the themes we noticed in many of your comments and questions was an underlying concern that you don't have enough time to train your pup to that level of skill.
That lit a fire over here at Pawsitive Influence, because you know that Willie is the master of integrating everyday tasks into training opportunities. So he's taken a video for us of his dinner routine with Cash and Cheehoo.
And, this is actually their abbreviated meal time routine. Usually the pups have to engage in much more waiting and patience-building, but for the sake of the length of this video we only captured the basics.
Meal times are an AWESOME opportunity for you to leverage into training and shaping behavior. They're one of our favorite hidden training opportunities.
You and your pup already have a meal time ritual. What if you leveraged it to shape the behavior(s) you want your pup to develop?
If that sounds like something you'd love to learn more about, shoot us a DM to discuss your pup's training needs.

👏👏 BIG congratulations to all the pups who worked hard at staying calm this morning during our Valley River Center pack walk.
Nearly a dozen pups joined us today, and y’all were awesome!!
Doing hard things with your pup, and experiencing success, helps to build your pup’s understanding of what is expected by your pack.
Really big gratitude to each of the humans today who trusted us with the training process. 🫶
Thank you, folks!! In 2024 so far, we've received a huge number of requests to work with our team of trainers. If you've been in touch with us, THANK YOU.
Each and every time we have a chance to help keep a good dog in a good home, it's a WIN.
(If you're thinking of reaching out - now is the time. Our spring schedules are nearly full. Please send us a DM to start the process.)
Along with all of these new inquiries, folks reasonably need to know our rates. We realized that we don't have them posted anywhere, and that we offer a few services you might not know about. We're remedying that today.
For example, did you know that we offer temperament testing for a dog you are considering adding to your pack? We can help you determine if that adorable snoot on social media could be a great fit for your pack.
And, did you know that we can help find a puppy for you? We can help you determine which kind of dog is going to have the best long-term success with your lifestyle, personality and work/family demands. Then, we can put you in touch with a REPUTABLE source for that kind of dog.
Why do we offer these services?? It supports our mission: we want to empower humans to build healthy, happy packs. Starting with a pup that's a great fit for your pack is STEP ONE.
Note: rates are valid for services within a 30-minute drive of Cottage Grove, OR. Occasionally, we offer services to clients in outlying areas, and rates will vary.

Meet us at Valley River Center this Sunday for another great pack walk.
What are Pawsitive Influence pack walks?
✅ An opportunity for you and your dog to get structured socialization, while in a controlled environment. (Socialization does NOT have to mean meeting other dogs or people!)
✅ A space for you to learn about how your dog views the world. (Our dogs are telling us constantly how they feel about things, but we often miss their cues.)
✅ An outing led by qualified dog trainers, who will manage the flow of the walk so that you can stay focused on leading your dog. (Dogs need leadership, especially in new spaces and exciting situations.)
✅ The chance to practice doing hard things with your dog. (Doing hard things on purpose, and teaching your pup what to do in those situations, helps sets you up to be a good leader.)
WHEN: Sunday, 3/3 at 9:30am (please arrive a few minutes early to ensure your pup has a chance to go to the bathroom)
WHERE: Valley River Center. Park and gather in the parking lot east of JCPenney (see screenshot).

Hey folks, we've got some #TuesdayThoughts for you today! Nearly all training tools can work, when they're used humanely and for the correct purpose. Sadly, we often hear about folks using remote collars in a way that our team wouldn't consider humane. Our mission is centered around empowering humans with the skills and training they need to build healthy, happy packs. If you've invested in some tools, but they don't seem to be effective for you, it could be that there's a teaching or learning gap for you and your pup. Send us a DM or an email if you're ready to learn how to leverage better tools and strategies to build the dog you want. ***** Training starts the moment your pup enters your house. We WANT to help the dogs that use their teeth (bite) to solve their problems. We WANT to help the dogs who are great at home, but who can't go anywhere else due to their out of control behavior. Dispersal! 🤔 Dispersal is a fascinating biological behavior protocol for our pups. It’s meant to drive them away (disperse) from their den/pack to start their own family. Your pup’s capacity to manage themselves will likely be reduced this time of year, because the very act of being alive will be over stimulating. Autumn is a great time of year to practice being the most consistent leader you can be. Your pup needs it now more than ever. If you’d like help learning how to lead your pack, reach out to us! We can help. ***** Training starts the moment your pup enters your house. 🐶 What’s more important? Getting your dog to stop digging, or building recall in the face of really high-value experiences? For Christina’s pack, it’s actually both. But at this stage in her pack’s development, she’s focusing on building the value of recall first. No matter the stimulus, no matter the “bad” behavior, Christina’s answer is: recall first. Take some time today to think about the things you argue with your pups about. What if you built the value of recalling off of those things? What if you built the value of recall as the best possible response for your dog? ***** Training starts the moment your pup enters your house. It's just that some types of reactivity are pack-approved, and some are not. The most identifiable forms of reactivity are expressed through excessive barking, lunging, biting, growling, and/or behavior that causes property damage. But what about the pup who chases cats, squirrels and anything else that moves? That's reactivity. What about the pup who greets every visitor with a full-body jump-shove? That's reactivity, too. What about the pup who nips their humans when they're excited? You guessed it; reactivity. ***** If you have a reactive dog, please register for this group class. Space is limited, so snag your spot. Petrichor. 🤔 We took this video a few days ago, and we’re just getting it up on the page. So we’ve had a few rainy days since then. But the guidance is still sound: if your dog acts “extra” after a fresh rain, there’s a reason! Doesn’t mean they should get a pass for behavior you don’t like - it means that they need extra awesome, engaged leadership from you! Work your dog in the rain this week! (Or immediately after a downpour.) Also, bonus footage of our lead trainer identifying an out-of-balance interaction in her pack and stopping her “task” (video) in order to address the behavior in her dogs. Building a balanced pack can be challenging. If you’d like to bring more healthy interactions and less conflict to your household, we can help. Find It! But make it advanced. 😬😁 There are so many ways to play Find It! and this pup strives to be a pro at all of them. Offering our dogs a way to engage their primary drives *collaboratively* with us helps build our leadership into something with extremely high value. And a dog that values our calm, confident, clear leadership will be much more likely to make good choices. Training starts the moment your pup enters your house. Another example of “Try Again!” And a bonus example of managing pack interactions. Sigrun is still learning how to self-soothe and self-manage. Sometimes she wants her brothers to entertain her, or satisfy her play drive. She’s learning two things: 1) out of control behavior isn’t tolerated or encouraged by her leader, and 2) if she wants her play drive satisfied, she needs to be calm and under control first. And, in this pack, we don’t ever assume that the dogs will “figure it out on their own.” The dominant dog (that’s YOU!), should help pack members respect boundaries, especially when one of the dogs has shown us that they will not stand up for themselves. Training starts the moment your pup enters your house. “Try Again” is a keyword phrase we build, and one that we use regularly. Note: The counting you’ll hear is in reference to a video we posted several days ago, in which Roxie needed more time than the other pup to agree with the pack leader. The important thing for Roxie, though, is that we gave her time. Time to think, time to align herself with the pack’s goals. If you’d like help identifying how build tools like this in your pack, please reach out to us. Training starts the moment your pup enters your house.
