🐾 ADVENTURE PUPS 🐾
Do you have a pup who is built for adventure? Are you nervous about actually adventuring with them?
Or have you tried in the past, but it didn't go well? You'd like to try again, but you want some help?
Adventure Pups to the rescue!!
What is it? A new Pawsitive Influence group class for pups (and their humans) who are ready to go on adventures!
Who is it for? Pups of all ages, breeds and sizes are welcome to inquire.* Large dogs are ENCOURAGED. Some pre-training required. Contact us to find out more.
How does it work? Classes will be Sunday mornings at 9:00am, and locations will vary. Generally, classes will be held within 10-45 minutes of Cottage Grove, OR. We will be in contact each week via email with class location and instructions.
How many classes? Either 4 classes, or 6 classes. We beta-tested Adventure Pups this spring, and it was GREAT. We found that for first-timers, you'll need two (2) get-you-ready classes followed by four (4) adventure classes. Once you've completed the Adventure Pups group class series at least one time, repeating the first two classes is optional. For first-timers, the get-you-ready classes are mandatory.
Who can register? Registration is by invitation-only. We're curating an invitation-only class so that this group is filled with pups (and their humans) who are ready for the same general level of challenges.
If you'd like an invitation to join Adventure Pups class, send us a message.
*Note: some pup/human teams may need one-on-one training before they're ready for Adventure Pups classes. If you're interested in this class *at all* please reach out to us! We can help determine if you're ready.

Fear-reactivity can look like a lot of things.
🐾 Excessive barking
🐾 Difficulty settling down
🐾 Velcro-dog behavior
🐾 Separation anxiety
🐾 Destructive behavior
🐾 Hiding, skittish behavior
🐾 Resource guarding
Helping a reactive dog become a calm dog is possible!
It starts with examining YOUR behavior, and learning how your influence keeps your pup in over-stimulated state, instead of a calm state.
🐶 Do you have a puppy or adolescent dog?
🐶 Are you trying your best to give them a great life, but you’re encountering some struggles?
Please consider registering for our puppy class! Classes start this Saturday, June 8th. And we’ll help you get started on your journey to build a calm dog that can make great choices.

Giving your dog space to learn how to interface with new things is essential as a calm, confident and consistent pack leader.
Oberon used to be *offensively* reactive to most new things in his environment. It took time and consistent leadership for him to learn how to trust that his human would handle things and lead their pack.
If this looks like something you’re missing in your pack, reach out to us. We’d love to see if we’re a good fit to help!

Building a calm dog starts with managing the high-value resources in your household. This is a long video, filled with boring stuff 😅 But we say this all the time: shaping behavior looks boring, folks. 🙌

Food and feeding times are an important resource to manage as a calm, confident and consistent pack leader.
Two of the pups in this pack (Dresden and Roxie) came from a free-feeding background. Although the transition from free-feeding had a few moments of struggle, both dogs now love the cadence and reliability of pack meal times.
If this looks like something you’re missing in your pack, reach out to us. We’d love to see if we’re a good fit to help your pack!

Semi-structured two-stick fetch and recall building.
Hey folks! Our intermediate and advanced puppy classes have been working on recall this week, and the question came up, “What should I do if my puppy wants to zoom around in the yard and not come back to me?”.
This week Christina’s pack had their first-ever interaction with a woodpecker in the yard.
SUPER high value distraction. Very difficult to recall off of a woodpecker attacking your favorite tree.
Sigrun, especially, thought the woodpecker was WAY more interesting than her human.
Here’s what we do:
Practice. Then practice some more. Practice when pups are calm, especially. If you wait to practice recall when they're already fixated on something more exciting than you (woodpeckers, haha), you've lost the battle.
Practice. Then practice some more.
Please notice that we’re not asking for extra stuff (sit, wait, etc.)., We’re rewarding the actual moment of RECALL with more fun movement.
As always, reach out with any questions!

Hidden Training Opportunities
Hey folks!
Several of you contacted us with a ton of great questions and observations about the "Find It!" video that Christina posted of Oberon earlier this week. One of the themes we noticed in many of your comments and questions was an underlying concern that you don't have enough time to train your pup to that level of skill.
That lit a fire over here at Pawsitive Influence, because you know that Willie is the master of integrating everyday tasks into training opportunities. So he's taken a video for us of his dinner routine with Cash and Cheehoo.
And, this is actually their abbreviated meal time routine. Usually the pups have to engage in much more waiting and patience-building, but for the sake of the length of this video we only captured the basics.
Meal times are an AWESOME opportunity for you to leverage into training and shaping behavior. They're one of our favorite hidden training opportunities.
You and your pup already have a meal time ritual. What if you leveraged it to shape the behavior(s) you want your pup to develop?
If that sounds like something you'd love to learn more about, shoot us a DM to discuss your pup's training needs.
