Another update:
Sara is home! Her heel miraculously was healing very well and does not need the wound vac anymore. Thank you for all the prayers!
I have already started to get the grooming appointments I had to cancel re-booked. I am working my way down my list. Please be patient as I do this. I am working around treatments and care for my daughter. I’m hoping to get everyone on the books today but may be reaching out to clients tomorrow as well to get scheduled. To give you an ideal, I got through the first dozen yesterday and have about 60 clients to schedule.
Update!:
Edit:
Looks like Sara will be here a couple more weeks. We’ll know for sure by tomorrow. I may be sending out text messages to clients on Friday and or Saturday with either an update or cancellation notice.
Original post:
Figured it’s time to let everyone know and do an update. My daughter Sara has been at the Phoenix Children’s Hospital since November 1st. She got a bad infection in her foot. We’re not sure how that started. Possibly from a scrape on her knee from playing soccer. It’s hard to say. She’s had to have three surgeries so far. It doesn’t look so infected as of right now and labs have been good. She has an incision on the side of her foot where they’ve gone in and cleaned out infected tissue and bone a few times. She also has a large hole in the heel of her foot that goes down to the bone. Right now she has a wound vac on the heel. She did have a picc put in during her last foot surgery so we can administer antibiotics when we do go home. We’re waiting on plastic surgeons to come up with a plan for how to heal her heel before she can be discharged. Her discharge plans all depend on what they come up with so for now it’s a sit and wait to find out.
Sara has been doing school work. She’s been going to the Zone, which is a really fun arcade like place in the hospital. They have several big screen tvs there with different game consoles. She calls her brother on my phone, puts him on speaker and plays Fortnite with him. That’s been pretty cool. It’s like he’s here with us. She loves Pet therapy. There’s different activities here that she’s been enjoying. They have slime kits here and she can do one a day. Guess who has a bunch of slime. Lol. This has been tough and emotional on her but she’s in good spirits.
Sara is spoiled and has just about everything she needs. The biggest thing she needs is more interaction with kiddos. She’s tired of us grownups. She really brightens up when friends call or when she meets new friends here. If your kiddo would like to call her, let me know. She can do FaceTime, kids messenger, regular phone call. She really really wishes that kiddos can come visit her. I know that can be hard to do though being all the way in Phoenix. If anyone does plan to come, please let me know first. If she has surgeries scheduled it may not be a good day to visit.
I have canceled all of my grooming appointments scheduled through this week. Hoping I won’t have to cancel more but it’s hard to say right now. I’ve been here on the week days while her dad works and he’s been coming down on the weekends to relieve me for a bit so I can go home, do laundry, restock on food, sleep in a real bed, etc.
Money is tight for both of us. If that’s something anyone wants to help with, it would be appreciated.
Thank you everyone for the love, hugs, and prayers!
