The Equestrian Dojo

The Equestrian Dojo Horse training help, lessons online & in-person. What We Do: Lessons, training, mobile services. Welcome to the Equestrian Dojo! I will come to you!

Horse Training: C**t starting, re-starting adult horses, foundation work, problem solving, starting in disciplines. Coaching Riders: Lesson program, banishing fear and frustration, problem solving, confidence building, total horsemanship, care and training. We're just getting started here but stick around, there's lots to come! My name is Charlie and I'm the co-founder and head instructor here. I'

m a mainly self-taught, eclectic horseman with just over 20 years experience. Originally from California, I've traveled all over the US working with horses and came back home to stay in 2006. Since 2015 I've been managing The Nexus, a small ranch in the foothills near Yosemite. If you've been training your own horse and having any kind of problem, or you just know you could use some help, get in contact with us! I'll listen to everything you have to say, help you and your horse get over any sticking points, and get on a path to fulfilling all your dreams of riding! I'm also going to be looking for places to run our future group lesson programs out of. My main service area includes everything within a 2-hour drive of Coulterville, California. At least for now! I'm open to talking about going further, but this is my core area! For now, hang out and a bunch more material is coming very soon! Thank you for being here and I look forward to serving you and your horses! OUR MISSION (Our "why")

1. Make the lives of horses and the people who love them better.

2. Increase peoples' safety, skill level and enjoyment of horses.

3. Banish fear and frustration, replace it with confidence and independence.

4. Help other aspiring teachers and trainers make a GOOD living.

5. Spread good horsemanship as much as possible!

Working with Sally the Mustang on the cowboy lunge line.

Working with this new little Mustang mare on ĥead/ear shyness. When she got here 3 days ago she was so tight on the right side and would jerk away if I touched that ear. Right now I'm just in here cleaning out the pen, putting no pressure on her, messing with her in these little ways whenever she chooses to come up.

Thinking of starting to post more of these 1-minute moments if there's interest. Something other than 40 minute sessions that require a bigger investment of time. 🤔

This should be an anthem for riders. Especially if like me you started as an adult and dealt with the fear of knowing you're mortal.

Always end off the session doing something they like, and they'll be just as good or better than where you left them last time. They may even let you catch them again!

Pets. Letting her know I appreciate her effort and that it's okay to stand here and chill. Get them good about these things on the ground and there's a good chance they'll do it when you're on their back too. Then they become like your own legs. Responsive, but calm. Relaxed, but not dull.

The foundation for getting that responsiveness from across the pen isn't chasing them with a whip, but in this basic work on the 12-foot lead rope. Leading, lungeing & lateral work. It's easy to affect the horse from this far away.

Same thing asking for the lope/canter. She's so hair triggered when you want her to be but will then go to sleep at a moment's notice. And that's such an important quality to teach a horse. Dial the energy up, dial it down. We need both! And it should take the same amount of effort to do either one. That's a horse operating on a feel.

She'll stand there and go to sleep so easily but then she'll also do this! Hitting that turnaround over the hocks in good form, off a finger point from across the round pen. If you teach them to be sensitive on the end of the lead rope then when you turn them loose like this it'll carry over. This is how we avoid the chasin', sweat pourin', dust raisin', whompin' and-a whoopin' methods of getting them to go!

First weekend of Spring training. Ginger is so chill here because she knows to take opportunities to rest, but at the same time is super responsive when you do ask her to move. Best of both worlds!

Hangin' with the horses in their overnight spot in the cool morning. High is supposed to be up to 109 today. Hottest day so far this year! So me and the dogs are getting our outside time while we can.

Horses need manes & tails combed out. They've been out here living the wild life for awhile now. Maintaining surprisingly good body condition on summer grass! We have a lot of different kinds of burs though. What can ya do, it's the California foothills in summer.

Wanted to say thanks to the folks who've followed this page, however you found it! Feel free to leave a comment and let me know! As for this page, something is coming soon. We're starting up training again. Just wanted to show some proof of life in the meantime!

This is so reassuring.
