As the first humane society in Council Bluffs we offer the community with a comprehensive animal welfare center offering a safe and comfortable environment for the animals. This includes excellent standards of care, proactive adoption services that match pets with adopters, plus a diverse array of volunteer opportunities, community outreach and public education programs.

Partnerships between organizations in animal welfare are the backbone of saving the lives of companion animals in our communities. We are extremely grateful for each and every one of our supporters and partners, and want to take a moment to say a huge thank you to our friends at Nebraska Humane Society.

Like us and many humane societies across the nation, NHS has consistently been at full kennel capacity. When graced with one small moment of breathing room, they took the opportunity to transfer in 7 dogs and 12 cats from our facility, giving us some desperately needed capacity relief.

These collaborations mean the world to us and allow us to continue making a difference, one paw at a time 🐾

This handsome boy is King!!!

King is a 2y old, male, Lab Mix. King is an energetic companion, always ready to engage in some playtime outside. His intelligence is evident in the way he masters new tricks and commands with ease. His boundless energy means he's always up for a walk, a run, or a play session. But King isn't just about fun and games, He's also a loyal friend, ready to offer a comforting presence and unconditional love. This guy does have one request for his new home, no cats...he just can't help himself and wants to chase them. King's smart, playful, and energetic personality makes him the perfect addition to any home looking for a companion who will bring joy, laughter, and a whole lot of love.

As an added bonus King recently came back from the Clarinda Correctional Facility training program where he received some 1 on 1 training with an inmate and learned some extra obedience skills to help him moving forward.

Meet Ella and Emma ❤💕❤

This sweet pair of girls are 4y old and are looking for a home together. Emma tends to be a bit shyer than Ella but in a quiet home with some time they will open up and show how sweet they are. We think these girls will do best in a home without small kids as they are very shy and quick movements and loud noises tend to scare them.

Candy is a 1 & 1/2 year old, female, Pitbull. This happy girl loves to get attention and is pretty sure she is a lap dog at times! She has done ok with other laid back dogs, cats are unknown.

Ace is ready to go on all your adventures!!

Ace is a 1 & 1/2 year old, male, Border Collie Mix. This happy guy is FULL of energy and would love to be a running partner or hiking partner! Ace has done ok with other dogs but does best with a dog that can match his energy.

Snorts is being the best girl in her foster home, and she is ready to find a permanent place to call home!

This 4-year-old Lab mix came to MHS as a stray and was diagnosed as heartworm positive shortly after. Due to this, her adoptive home will need to keep her activity levels at a minimum as she completes treatment. MHS will provide all heartworm treatment for her adopters.

Snorts is a very sweet, intelligent girl that will be a great addition to most homes. Here is what her foster has to say:

"She knows sit and wait so you can put the food down and she'll wait until you give her permission to go to it. She loves to cuddle and likes to jump on the couch or bed with us. She's been staying in her crate at night or when we go out and is very good about going in. During the day she likes to hang out in the office with me."

It may be a dark, rainy day outside, but Tug is here to brighten up your feed!

Tug is a 10-month-old Shepherd mix who was actually born in an MHS foster home this year. Unfortunately, the resident dog in his adoptive home never warmed up to him so he is now looking for his new home. Tug is a blank slate and with some dedication to his training and giving him new life experiences, we know he will come out of his shell and be an amazing adult dog. Tug can be unsure in new situations and just needs to build some confidence with his new family. Can that be with you?
