As the first humane society in Council Bluffs we offer the community with a comprehensive animal welfare center offering a safe and comfortable environment for the animals. This includes excellent standards of care, proactive adoption services that match pets with adopters, plus a diverse array of volunteer opportunities, community outreach and public education programs.

We are thrilled to have had an amazing turn out for our community vaccine clinic in partnership with New Visions Homeless Services this afternoon!

We just wanted to post an update as there has been some confusion with services offered after the conclusion of this clinic at 4:00 p.m. Unfortunately, we are not able to continue the free services offered WITH THE EXCEPTION of the parvo/distemper vaccine.

You can stop by MHS during business hours for a free parvo/distemper vaccine, or a microchip for $27.50. We do not offer rabies vaccine outside of our vaccine clinics. EDITED TO ADD: please call ahead at 712-396-2270 to verify the free vaccine is available as supplies are limited.

We appreciate everyone who joined us today and look forward to hosting another clinic soon!

Gracie has been living it up in foster care (well...napping it up, really) and she's ready to find a forever home to call her own!

She is an 8-year-old terrier mix whose favorite past time is to nap by her foster mom. She is a laid-back girl who would love another low-key home to enjoy her golden years. Gracie is currently living with another senior dog and is doing just fine. This sweet, gentle soul would love to be your new companion!

Have you been wanting to join a volunteer orientation? Great news, we have one scheduled TONIGHT from 6:30-7:15 p.m.

Attending orientation allows you to see if volunteering at MHS is the right fit for you! Whether you're interested in assisting with animal care, supporting adoption events, or helping with daily operations, we have a variety of roles available.

Meet Daphne!

This 1.5-year-old setter mix is sweet, smart, and ready for a fresh start. Daphne recently completed a training program at the Clarinda Correctional Facility, where her handler shared that she was a star pupilā€”rocking her kennel manners and mastering basic obedience skills like a pro!

Her previous owner shared that she showed signs of separation anxiety, so her future family will need to continue working with her on feeling safe and secure when home alone. With patience, routine, and positive reinforcement, Daphne is sure to thrive.

Not to be dramatic, but Iā€™ve been sitting hereā€¦ being adorableā€¦ showing off my tricksā€¦ wiggling for b***y scratchesā€¦ and the internet is just šŸ‘€ scrolling right past me?

I meanā€”what does a handsome, well-trained, slightly chonky Border Collie mix have to do to get a little attention around here?! šŸ˜…

Iā€™ve been at Midlands Humane Society since September 17, 2024, and Iā€™m kind of the full package:

šŸ¾ Energetic (Zoomies included at no extra cost)
šŸ¾ Loyal, fun, and the #1 fan of a good b***y scratch
