• Horses can perceive human emotions through body language, facial expressions, and tone of voice. Studies have shown they can distinguish between positive and negative human emotions, such as happiness and anger.
• The emotional connection between horses and humans is mutual. Interacting with horses can lower stress levels, reduce blood pressure, and improve overall well-being in humans, which is why equine programs are so effective.
• Horses are incredibly attuned to the energy and demeanor of people around them. They may approach and comfort humans who appear distressed or upset, showcasing empathy.

This horse belonged to my good buddy JD Morris and went from doctoring calves in the frozen North to be a top level team roping horse in Texas!

This was actually the unloading up in Delaware they all loaded in the dark like a group of professionals that they are!

Throwback to a hurricane evacuation a few years ago. These incredible horses—every one—loaded into the trailer like true professionals, showing just how powerful teamwork can be. At Hold the Reins, we’re reminded every day how trust and collaboration lead to strength, whether it’s in a crisis or in healing.

I love seeing the bond of the Team last beyond the Teams...

Chip Mielkey was a man of unusual talents. One of which was rapping along with DMX while conducting Friday field day. He also had the ability to bring people together. Chip started a gathering of his own for the men of Special Boat Team 20. He recognized the need for brotherhood and connection amongst the SWCC veteran and retired community.

Recently, Hold The Reins was able to attend the Mielkey Skol held annually. There, the SWCC community was able to honor the memory of Chip and continue on the legacy. Chip was the man who gave Hold The Reins its start. He donated $100,000 simply because he believed in our mission and because of his love and care for the Naval Special Warfare community. We tip our cap to Chip and his family for their continued support.
