I love seeing the bond of the Team last beyond the Teams...

Chip Mielkey was a man of unusual talents. One of which was rapping along with DMX while conducting Friday field day. He also had the ability to bring people together. Chip started a gathering of his own for the men of Special Boat Team 20. He recognized the need for brotherhood and connection amongst the SWCC veteran and retired community.

Recently, Hold The Reins was able to attend the Mielkey Skol held annually. There, the SWCC community was able to honor the memory of Chip and continue on the legacy. Chip was the man who gave Hold The Reins its start. He donated $100,000 simply because he believed in our mission and because of his love and care for the Naval Special Warfare community. We tip our cap to Chip and his family for their continued support.

May God bless all you dirty boat guys!

We respect the fact that so many have served, and continue to serve to this day

This Veterans Day we honor the horse and its use in the US military.

Horses have been central to military operations worldwide, providing mobility, speed, and strength for centuries. The U.S. military used horses extensively through the 19th and early 20th centuries; however, with the advent of mechanized vehicles, horses’ roles shifted mainly to ceremonial and specialized uses by the mid-20th century. Despite technology, certain environments, like mountainous regions in Afghanistan, saw a resurgence in using horses in the 21st century.

Horses continue to symbolize the adaptability, courage, and historical roots of the U.S. military, bridging past and present. Recognition that, while largely ceremonial, the role of horses has adapted alongside the military’s evolving needs, adding to the versatility and cultural heritage of U.S. armed forces.

Horses now serve as a reminder of flexibility and the unexpected ways traditional skills remain relevant in modern warfare. Legacy of the “Horse Soldiers” is commemorated by a statue at the 9/11 Memorial in New York City, symbolizing bravery and resilience.

Happy Veterans Day!

It’s a day of pride and remembrance, reflecting the Corps’ steadfast motto, Semper Fidelis (“Always Faithful”), and reinforcing the enduring bond that unites Marines past and present. And here we are... where it begins..

Did you know that Navy SEALs and other Special Operations Forces are trained to handle intense physical and mental stress, building resilience through structured, high-pressure challenges? This training helps them stay calm and focused, even in chaotic situations.

At Hold the Reins, we use similar techniques in our equine wellness sessions to help military members find calm and balance. By working with our horses, participants learn skills that support emotional resilience, improve stress management, and offer new ways to navigate through life’s challenges.

What a sweet interaction...

At Hold the Reins, we believe the magic of horses is something the whole family should experience. Our gentle giants have a way of connecting with children, creating spaces of trust, calm and confidence. We encourage families to come together, and discover the unique healing and strength horses bring, making wellness a shared journey.

Testimonial from a Hold the Reins participant:
“I’m beyond grateful and thankful I found you and Rich and the way you guys have moved in my life. You guys are warriors of Christ and truly came into my life at the exact time I needed. The only explanation is that HE spoke to me through you guys. You and Rich have brought me a lot closer to my faith than I ever was before. Nothing else brings me peace like being on the farm. I don’t care if it’s just to clean the pens and feed the animals.”

When life feels like it’s running at full speed, horses can help us slow down and find balance. Through connection and calm, they help ease the sympathetic nervous system, guiding us from stress to peace. At Hold the Reins, we honor this powerful bond, offering support to our military heroes and their families in their journey to healing. 🐎 ”
