A Journey of Healing and Connection -
At Hold the Reins, we’re dedicated to providing transformative experiences through equine assisted coaching for our service members and their families. One participant recently shared a moment that deeply moved us:
“There was a moment with the horse when I felt like he was saying it was okay to feel what I was feeling and that he understood and I was safe and he had me. I was able to be vulnerable with them at the debrief which isn’t something I ever do around new people. It took me by surprise but it felt amazing and powerful. Mike and I also had really deep conversation on the way to and from the farm.”
Supporting our service members on their healing journey is a privilege. Their resilience and courage inspire us every day.
Keep an eye out I will be posting a big update on this effort soon happy Independence Day to all!

We had three Incredible days working with both families and Special Warfare operators this past week, the horse cannot lie, lives were changed!
Huge thanks to all that have supported this effort!
I love seeing those that I love investing time together!
Reflecting on Saturday’s horsemanship lesson with . During the visit, we delved into the art of horsemanship, embracing our mistakes, and understanding the patience of these majestic creatures. Todd’s teaching style goes beyond the arena; it’s about life lessons and the subtle art of catching up with our potential. Sending a huge thank you to Todd for his guidance and generosity!
Just another great day!
Winter time, like most of you we are in the shop preparing for another spring! I love my hideout, this was last summers project... thank you and for making it happen!

My horse and I are the first and last 25 seconds of this 3 minute video, guess I'm now an actor!
Enjoy!
We do ride horses, but watching this little buckaroo develop is by far the most fun thing we do here!
I often say that there is no easy money training horses because it is all work, however, sometimes we make fun money! This c**t is new under saddle and learning about softness... please note how my hand is indexed against his neck and there's a slight bow in the reins, he is learning to find his own release…

It is always sad when we come across horses with a troubled past that we don't know about, helping them through this trauma so that they can trust and become productive members of the equine community is always a joy. This little mare is making progress in the right direction. Thank you .grace.rescue
The conversation must go both ways...
Thank you for having me work with your nice horses and for letting us stay in your beautiful barn!
Finally, quality help!
Came to me as a hard loader... the problem wasn't the trailer it was trust...

Clinic alert!!
The picture has to do with a horse that nobody could load and haul, we loaded and hauled him to his new home! Took almost 8 and a 1/2 minutes…

This little horse hasn't gone into a trailer since 2019, today her owner learned to help her load! It's not about getting the horse in the trailer, (they all load) its about helping the owner help the horse... well done Morgan Burton!
We hauled a couple more non-noading horses this morning, when I am loading this Mini donkey the mare is in the front I will try to attach a picture of her getting in as well, please note this little guy loaded on a loose lead rope. There is no "work the horse outside of the trailer so that the trailer becomes the place they want to be" that is horsemanship through mechanics and is not beneficial to the horse. I forgot to mention that from the time I turned off my truck until it turned it back on to leave, including catching both of them, was 16 minutes…
This is a typical day here in the arena thought I would share this video you may find it interesting turn the sound on I do narrate it. I don't think it's very long enjoy!
This is a fun, fun video! My good buddy Jacob Deweese is coming out of the head side box, he and his horse are bang up Ropers! Thank you for sharing Jacob!
What a nice little horse! Ocho rode off quiet and calm. Very soft in my hands. This video is only one minute and 23 seconds long and you can see at the end I backed him up and turned him around, thank you so much to my good buddy Jacob Deweese for helping out today!
I have people ask me all the time how do you load a horse that you can't even touch? Well here it is!
Building a future police horse one day at a time, skill by skill, 70 days ago he was virtually untouched, now he rides and will go home soon to his new career.
Good morning from Fish Tale Bar G! Just a pen full of Rascals that are here for reform school! Come ride with us!
When you're turning horses out for the night and noticed that there's a stack of old stall mats that can be used as an expedient training aid!
