🐱Meet Tuck🐱
Tuck came to us on May 19th as an emergency for an evaluation of his urethral opening. Tuck didn’t have the ability to fully empty his bladder and was dribbling urine.

Dr. Lodato did an examination and his prepuce appeared distended with urine and he was unable to produce a steady stream. She did abdominal radiographs and it did not show any evidence of a distended bladder. Dr. Lodato then diagnosed him with prepucial/ urethral stenosis.

She performed a perineal urethrostomy. What is a perineal urethrostomy (PU)? It is a surgical procedure that creates a new opening in the urethra to bypass a blockage or obstruction in the original urethral passage. It’s most commonly developed in male cats.

⭐️Fun Fact: Tuck was the youngest (4 weeks old) and smallest patient Dr. Lodato has performed surgery on to date weighing just 0.39 kilograms (0.8 pounds) at the time of surgery! As of June 9th, he weighed 1.6 pounds and he is doing fantastic.

It’s been a while since we’ve talked about Anna 4 Paws, so let’s do this!

Anna 4 Paws’ mission is to provide canine specific, veterinarian maintained, first-aid kits and canine first-aid training to working canine teams at no cost to the receiving agencies, and Slidell Police Department is one of the agencies we sponsor. This photo comes hot off the press as one of their bags needed a refresh, and that’s why we’re here: to keep the bags operationally ready so the officers have what they need in an emergency.

We’re truly honored to be able to support this amazing organization and the working K9s out there keeping us safe.

Help us congratulate one of our rehabilitation therapists, Jaycelin, on completing and passing her HBOT training and exam!

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) certification in veterinary medicine is an advanced credential that equips veterinary professionals with the knowledge and skills to safely and effectively administer oxygen therapy to animals. HBOT involves placing a patient in a pressurized chamber to breathe 100% oxygen, which enhances tissue healing, reduces inflammation, and supports recovery from conditions like wounds, infections, neurological disorders, and post-surgical recovery.

As HBOT continues to gain recognition in veterinary medicine, certified professionals play a crucial role in advancing its use and providing innovative care to pets and other animals in need. We are beyond proud to announce that we now have a team of 6 certified HBOT technicians who collaborate with each department and referring partners to ensure our patients are receiving the best and most beneficial care possible!
