This page is run by volunteers in cooperation with Newton County Animal Services to improve the quality of care for animals in our county. We take photos of animals inside the shelter to help owners find their lost pets and to increase each animal's odds of being successfully adopted. We also share lost dog/cat flyers exclusively from www.HelpingLostPets.com and post helpful care tips for our community. We are here to improve the quality of care for companion animals in Newton County.

You may see Rick out and about today. He's been hanging out in the front parking lot and has been greeting the public. He's not a stray and he has not been abandoned- we promise! He's the best cat we've ever met, so if you plan on visiting the shelter today, do not be alarmed if you see him out and about. He's just trying to say hi and did we mention he is super nosey? Rick cannot come into the shelter during working hours, but don't worry, he comes in at night during the cold weather.

If you plan on visiting the shelter today starting at 11am, please use caution. Public Works has come by this morning to put down some salt to help melt the ice, but we are unsure of much will be melted by opening. Staff are asking the public to slowly enter the parking lot and use caution walking in.

Due to the predicted winter storm, Newton County government offices will be closed Friday, January 10. Newton County's essential departments and public safety will continue to work through the storm.

The shelter is getting full and there are many great dogs available for adoption! If you are looking for a furry friend to add to your family now is the time! The shelter will be open until 4:30pm today and Saturday 10am-1pm. Not pictured in the video are a few small terriers you can find posted on our page.

Long-term shelter residents Jewel and Smokey enjoyed outside playtime together today. They both enjoy playing with other dogs! Both are available for adoption and can be adopted together or seperate. Staff would love to see these sweet dogs get adopted soon!

Newton County Animal Services still has 2 very sweet babies(male and female) available for adoption. They have been at the shelter since February 15th and have been spayed and neutered! If you are looking for a puppy to adopt please visit the shelter today!

Puppies! ALL ADOPTED Newton County Animal Services currently has 9 Lab mix puppies that are 9 weeks old! The puppies are available first come first served and will stay at the shelter until Friday afternoon to be spayed/neutered. Please visit the shelter in person to meet one and potentially adopt! Only one puppy per household. 210 Lower River rd Covington, GA Puppies receive age appropriate vaccines, deworming, microchip, and spay/neuter for a fee of $100!

If you've been considering adopting a new furry friend, NOW is the time! There are 71 cats and kittens at Newton County Animal Services right now that NEED OUT. For a limited time, the adoption fee for cats and kittens has been reduced to $40, and includes age-appropriate vaccination, spay/neuter, and microchip. Please, open up your heart and home to a wonderful companion that needs your love!

Who is looking for a pair of AMAZING girls ? These two came into the shelter after their owner was unable to care for them. So being owner surrenders they are available immediately for adoption. The shelter is nearly full and that’s a scary thing for owner surrenders and dogs that the stray hold is up!!!! These girls are already spayed, current on all vaccines, preventions, microchipped, and heartworm negative. They get along great with each other (and with others, know sit, and love the water.
