Murray County Humane Society

Murray County Humane Society Murray County Humane Society is a licensed GA rescue, no kill facility, and 501(c)3 organization committed to saving lives of unwanted pets.

Nestled in the foothills of the Appalachians, in a very rural part of north Murray County, Georgia, is the Murray County Humane Society Foster Care Facility. There are no signs depicting that this is a haven for unwanted dogs and cats for fear that more will be tossed over the fence that surrounds the property. Hundreds of dogs and cats have passed through these doors...they are abandoned, neglect

ed, and abused. If they could speak, each would have a story to tell. At the foster facility, they receive the utmost of TLC while awaiting a forever home, transport to another rescue group, or for some, this is where they stay to live out the rest of their lives. Our goal is to provide a safe, loving environment for as many unwanted animals as we have to ability to save. The Murray County Humane Society is a non-profit (501c3), licensed Georgia rescue whose purpose is to provide shelter, food, and medical care to unwanted dogs and cats while trying to place them in loving and permanent homes. We are a small group of volunteers who work to provide love & care for these animals while at our foster facility. Our rescue is a no kill rescue group so some of these animals will remain with us until they cross over the rainbow bridge. Everything we do is accomplished through donations, membership fees, and fundraising projects. Without the support of our community, we would not be able to continue saving the lives of these unwanted pets in Murray County.

Meet Poi. This fabulous girl has quickly become a favorite of everyone who meets her. She's about 2 years old. Poi is current on vaccines, heartworm negative, and spayed. She walks well on a leash and appears to be crate trained. It can be hard to tell in a kennel sometimes, but she's quite tidy! She loves other dogs and does great with people of all ages. She enjoys toys, treats, and car rides. She dances and will belt out a "woooo" song on occasion when she sees folks coming in to see her. She would be an amazing family pet!

Our featured dog today is George. This sweet boy has been a perfect gentleman during his stay with us. He is roughly 2 years old. George is neutered, fully vaccinated, and heartworm negative. He walks well on a leash and knows a few basic tricks. He loves people of all ages and he's dog friendly. He loves treats and fuzzy blankets. He is also a bit of an artist as he likes to rearrange his kennel on a daily basis. He would love to have a yard to run and a couch to chill with you on. George would make a great family pet!

Followers and Viewers What a wonderful weekend!

Thank you Victoria Carlile and all those who donated at the pageant! What a beautiful sight this is. Our animals and those who care for them are beyond thankful. Please feel free to tag the pageant and other organizers so others can see the good work you do.

We also want to thank our friends who run our Black Bear Festival booth. Ladies, you rock! Each of you contribute so much to the Humane Society and we appreciate you.

We also appreciate each person who stopped by our booth, asked for information about one of our adoptable pets and of course, bought raffle tickets! It was a great turn out.

"We are not put on this earth for ourselves, but are placed here for each other. If you are there always for others, then in time of need, someone will be there for you.”

A Big Thank You to the Southeast Whitfield High School Raider Paw Project!

We’ve been incredibly fortunate over the past few weeks to have the help of some amazing volunteers from Southeast Whitfield High School’s Raider Paw Project. Their hard work, energy, and dedication have made such a positive impact at the shelter!

From clearing overgrown areas of our yard to giving "Kitty City" a top-to-bottom scrub, brushing, bathing, and helping us take new photos of all our dogs, these students have truly gone above and beyond. We are so grateful for their help and the difference they’ve made for our animals.

Stay tuned for a post showcasing all the beautiful new pictures of our furry friends! 🐾

Thank you again, Raider Paw Project, for your support and commitment to our shelter!

We Need Your Help!

We understand many are in need right now, and it’s difficult for us to ask, but our animals depend on us to. Our supply shelves are running low, and we’re turning to our amazing community for support.

While we have an Amazon Wishlist, we know many of the items we need can be found at more affordable prices at stores like Walmart or Tractor Supply. Here’s what we are most in need of:

Purina Puppy Food
Pedigree Chicken Dog Food
Purina Cat Chow
Canned Puppy & Adult Dog Food (Retriever brand is our favorite)
Cat Litter

Additionally, we have NO TOYS left for our animals. Both bully make toys for larger dogs and smaller ones for puppies are appreciated—our pups especially love the bulk pig ears from Tractor Supply! Treats are also greatly needed to keep tails wagging.

Some of our cleaning supplies are also wearing out, and we’re low on:

Brooms
Paper Towels
Puppy Pads

Anything you can contribute, whether from our list or something else, will help us take care of the animals in our care. Thank you for your generosity and support!

We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has come forward to help over the past 24 hours, especially our incredible volunteers and those who have stepped up or offered to foster. Your support means the world to us!

After a sleepless night, keeping a close eye on the animals to ensure their safety. We're relieved to report that we made it through without flooding, and our buildings remain intact.

We're still experiencing heavy rain, and we're counting on the continued power of your prayers and positive thoughts to help us through. We will keep you all updated—thank you again for your unwavering support!

Here's some great information with reminders on how to prepare when we have Pets.

🚨Hurricane Helene is expected to bring heavy winds and rain to our area in the coming days. Our first priority is to help you keep your pets safe. It is important to be weather aware. Here are some things to keep in mind:

- Check your pet’s anxiety medications to make sure you have enough and are easily accessible. Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns.

- Make sure your pets have current ID tags and keep a leash in a convenient location.

- Check with your pet’s microchip company to make sure your contact information is up-to-date.

- Choose a safe room for hunkering down in an emergency such as a tornado. This is typically an interior room on the lowest floor of your home, away from windows. Have an evacuation plan should you need it.

- Pay attention to our local weather news and heed their warnings!

- Got a fence? After the storms have passed, walk the property to make sure it is intact and clear any debris in their path BEFORE letting them out.

- Leash walk your pets until all storms have passed as they may bolt from you during sudden lightning and thunder.
-
We will get through this together ☀️⛈️🌈

Murray County Humane Society is saddened by the passing of our friend and dedicated advocate, Karen Coulter. Karen was a true friend and champion for animals, tirelessly giving her time, love, and resources to save countless lives in our community.

We ask that everyone keep Karen’s family in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. She led the fight for animal rights in Murray County for many years, and her passion will continue to inspire us.
