Introducing Chunky Dunk!! She is a miniature daschund, and unlike her name is not at all chunky!! However, her breed, along with similar breeds that are long backed/short-legged dogs, can be prone to spinal disorders such as IVDD. Prevention is key to help avoid injury and build strength in all dogs. ✨️ Rehab Spotlight✨️ Remington is an 11 year old Beagle who presented on October 24th, unable to walk, specifically dragging his rear legs. Owners were concerned with quality of life and were seeking options. Upon an examination with Dr. Martin, the diagnosis was severe arthritis and muscle wasting, as well as some neurological deficits.
Dr. Martin referred Remington to our Rehab Department under the care of RVT Megan Davis.
Initial consultation completed, we ordered a custom wheelchair which Remington quickly showed signs of improvement!! His rehab sessions include laser therapy and sessions in our underwater treadmill to assist with continued mobility and rebuilding/gaining strength.
Today Remington was able to walk unassisted prior to his underwater treadmill session and is continuing our rehab program with weekly visits!! 🎉 Way to go Remington 🎉 #Rehab #underwatertreadmill 🌊🐕🐾

Miss Sophie Update!!!! She is jogging on all 4's!!!!
Many of you have been following sweet Sophie and her amazing rehabilitation journey.
Sophie is a 7-year-old Maltese who came in to see the doctor with concerns of losing the mobility in her back legs. She was still able to walk at first, but with very little control, causing her to lose balance with most efforts.
During the doctor's physical examination, Sophie showed signs of extreme discomfort which led the doctor to perform a radiograph. Upon doing so, the doctor discovered she had narrowing of vertebra in her spine. This concluded in a diagnosis of IVDD, the result of a herniated disc causing compression of the spinal cord.
Our doctor recommended rehabilitation with our Rehabilitation Technician, Megan. Megan met with Sophie's owners and together they developed a plan. Sophie has undergone 4 weeks of laser therapy, strengthening exercises, and transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation during her visits here twice a week with Megan. At the beginning of May Sophie was fitted with a wheelchair. Our goal was to see Sophie regain strength in her hind end.
Beginning her journey in April you will see Sophie had no use of her back legs. 4 weeks later, a lot of patience, and hard work, Sophie is now walking through the clinic faster than RVT Megan!!!
If you have a pet who may be experiencing similar symptoms, ask your veterinarian if rehabilitation is right for your pet!
