Huge Christmas sale at Meade Canine Resale parking lot, 4303 El Camino Real, Atascadero (across the street from the old Kmart parking lot)- Sunday, Dec 8 from 10 am to 3 pm. All types of christmas items from placemats, stockings, table cloths, statues, ornaments, ginger bread houses, toys …. Just too much to list. Come on out and support Meade. All proceeds go for the care of our dogs.

Tomorrow is Giving Tuesday and that along with many solicitations for donations makes it difficult for supporters to decide who to give to. Another very happy adoption! Our dear friend lost her 17 year old Stella yet opened her heart and home to love and adopt again. Elsa was the lucky dog she chose and they are already in love with each other.

Duke was unwanted by his original owner, but this young lady drove all the way from LA for him! Congratulations Duke and your new Mom. You are an adorable pair.

Today a big white truck pulled up from kern county animal services. These lucky dogs have some nice “advocates” at a very sad pound filled with dogs in danger including a woman named Tahaira who’s been reaching out during the week. We committed to 3 but when they had to be delivered today, I asked that she bring the other two and I’d at least look at them. Janet with a tennis ball sized mammary tumor and Roxy and the other females with various little tumors and masses. No one is spayed and teeth across the board are nasty. Whiskers, the terrier was attacked by dogs and though stitched up by Bakersfield has opened those stitches, is not neutered and in rough shape all around. Though we don’t have pull fees and Kern was kind enough to transport them, this will be an expensive group of dogs to vet and probably sanctuary forever given our adoption rates and their mixes, ages and issues.
In addition, our 2 recent adoptions are being returned, so at this time of year, if you can see it in your hearts to donate to Meade Canine Rescue, earmark it Bakersfield, and it will be greatly appreciated. Click on link below to help these poor old babies.

You will love this sweet adoption story of a little ,shy dog from Meade, Jersan.

"I just wanted to let you know that "Jersan", who I renamed Basil, was put to sleep yesterday after a rapid decline from stomach cancer. I want you all to know that in the year and a half I had him, he made such an impact on me and everyone around me. He was so deeply, deeply loved.

He blossomed into such a beautiful soul. Confident, patient, and devoted. He got to experience so many wonderful things in Canada: boat rides at the cottage, trips to farmers markets, road trips, hikes, and even the cold snow! He had a short time with us, but we tried to make it as rich as possible.

He was my constant shadow and in the last few days I tried to return the favour when he couldn't move much. I didn't leave him for more than a few minutes at a time. I stayed with him until the very last moment.

I wanted to thank you for making it possible to make him a part of my life, even if it was for a short time. He was an absolute gift.

Thank you for bringing Basil to me. He meant more to me than I could ever explain."

Thankyou Jess for giving him the best home and sharing his story!

Look how far Jay Z has come! His skin is healing and he’s putting on some weight. This is what keeps us going when the sadness of Rescue seems overwhelming. Please give Rescue owners and volunteers a pat on the back, it’s a heart wrenching business.

It’s taken me several days to post this picture of Jay as it’s difficult to come up with a caption. Many folks are totally unaware that this type of dog really exists in America, let alone California. We look at him and ask HOW? How could anyone let a helpless animal suffer like this. To help us, we ask that you continue to spread the word to spay and neuter your pets, use social media, emails, personal contact, whatever. We face these heartbreaking situations multiple times a day and many we can’t help because of the sheer numbers. Reach out to us if you know anyone needing help getting their pets altered and report any situations you see like poor Jay. It only takes a phone call. HELP PLEASE!
