💛💛Buddy is a 5-year old yellow lab who came in around New Years. His knees in both back legs were out of place so over the past 6 months he has successfully had surgery on both knees by a specialist in Tallahassee.

Buddy is being fostered by Ms Myra. She is 78-years old and never owned a big dog. She came to me New Years Eve and wanted to foster. All I had was Buddy and she wanted to take him! It has been such a blessing for me to see the joy he has brought to her life. She really wants Buddy to have a home with children and maybe another dog and she wants the family to live in Lynn Haven. She wants to be able to visit Buddy and wants the family to know she will pup sit any time they need to be away.

The loss of Mikayla Raines, founder of Save A Fox Rescue, is a heartbreaking reminder of the emotional toll this work can take. Like too many in the rescue world, Mikayla was overwhelmed—not by the animals, but by the cruelty, judgment, and pressure that often come from within our own community. She gave her life to saving others, yet felt she had no one to save her.

We must do better—for each other.

If someone’s animals are not suffering, and they are trying their best with the resources they have, why tear them down? Constructive dialogue is one thing, but bullying, gossip, and harsh judgment have no place in rescue. This is hard work. It’s relentless. And it can break even the strongest hearts.

Be kind. Offer help. Not harm. We are all fighting the same fight—to reduce suffering, to make life better for animals. Let’s not forget the humans in this work need compassion too.

Rest in peace, Mikayla. You were loved by the foxes, and by so many of us.
