Today's Dog of the Day is Edward 🐾

Edward has been at our shelter since 2023.
Please read that again. 2023.
The heartbreaking reality is that living in a shelter for an extended period of time is not a life, and Edward has been subjected to this environment for entirely too long.
He has waited patiently. He has rang in 2024 and 2025 in this shelter. He is happy to greet people who will stop to talk to him and he doesn't have a mean bone in his body.
Edward does incredible with other dogs and has a laid back, happy personality.
He left our shelter for a very short time, only to be returned because he was trying to visit the neighbors.
He loves to make friends and can adapt to any situation.

Edward is 2-3 years old, fully vetted, and HW negative.
Edward's adoption fee has been waived & we hope that someone will see this and save Edward from spending another night in the shelter.

Bella (black chihuahua mix) and Maggie (white and brown mix) have arrived for camp! These sweet girls were adopted by a wonderful family from the amazing Haven 12:10 Animal Sanctuary, and are spending a couple weeks at Piper's Place!

They both had a very rough start before being rescued, and have struggled a little bit learning to live together peacefully.

Over the next few weeks, we're going to help Bella and Maggie feel more confident, build even more trust with their mom and dad to keep them safe, and learn healthier coping skills that do not include resource guarding mom, dad, furniture and toys from each other.

‼️ HOW TO KEEP YOUR DOG SAFE DURING SEVERE WEATHER‼️

🏷 Make sure your dogs have some form of ID tag on their collar

🐕 Keep your dog's collar ON them in case of an emergency

🐕‍🦺 Don't let your dog outside unsupervised or off leash in severe weather, especially at night. Dogs that are scared may act out of character and run away or get lost!

🔐 Triple check that all doors are shut, gates are locked, and crates are latched to prevent accidental escaping

‼️ HOW TO EXERCISE YOUR DOG DURING SEVERE WEATHER ‼️

🥜 Stuff kongs, toppls, tracheas, food bowls, or other toys with plain greek yogurt, peanut butter, plain canned pumpkin, kibble, treats, veggies, fruits, etc for a yummy snack and mental exercise

❄️ Pro tip - freeze the stuffed chews for at least 2-3 hours for a longer lasting snack!

🪄 Teach your dog a new trick, then practice it in different rooms in your home

🐽 Hide their favorite treats around the house so they can use their nose to sniff them out

🧶 Play tug of war or hide and seek

💤 Practice relaxation exercises after mental and physical exercise

Haunt is still waiting for his forever family 🥺 His adopters will be gifted a free lesson and very discounted training with Piper's Place!!!

Haunt spent several days with me, so I was able to get a good read on his personality and behaviors. He's a higher energy dog with great potential and drive to learn. His excitability and stress in the shelter environment makes it hard for him to be given a fair chance, but he will make such an amazing family companion with a little time to decompress and find his greatest potential!

🐾 Today's Dog of the Day is Haunt! 🐾

Haunt is a good boy who has a lot of energy and sadly, we think his over excitement may be what causes people to steer away from him.
Haunt has been here at the shelter over a YEAR now. This boy is already working on his 2nd year without a home or a family to call his own.

Haunt loves to play, run, & give kisses. He can sometimes get a little overwhelmed with his happiness and can excitedly nip, but we have no doubt that he could be taught manners if someone would just be willing to give him time.

Haunt desperately needs out of here.

Zeke and Phoebe did great during their training lessons today, and loved getting to explore in the sunshine ☀️

Cookie has officially arrived for her camp! She's still too nervous to pose for pictures, but she'll be having fun learning in no time so everyone can see how sweet and adorable she is 🥰

We are in CODE BLACK! This means our kennels are completely full and we are beyond our MAX.

We have TWELVE adorable puppies right now all ready for adoption.

Our office helper Cadence is only 20 lbs and has been an absolute sweetheart. We’re not sure why someone hasn’t already scooped her up, either!

We have so many incredible dogs here, waiting for their very own families.

Please realize that being in a kennel 23 hours a day for weeks, months, sometimes even YEARS on end is no life.

Please help us find these dogs a home.

Our shelter is currently housing over 60 dogs.

We need adopters, rescues, or fosters!

Our adoption fees for adult dogs are half off right now at only $44. We have many dogs who are completely sponsored.
We offer military, senior, and first responders a discount as well.

Welcome Maisie to the Piper’s Place family!

Maisie is a super sweet 1 year old Australian Cattle Dog mix that was adopted from Wags & Walks as a puppy.

Maisie needs a bit of help with feeling more confident and resilient in new environments, as well as a great obedience and lifestyle foundation to be an even happier furry family member.

This girl is so fun and smart, so her customized Intermediate Training Camp will be the perfect fit to set her and her mom up for success. I can't wait to see their progress on this training journey!

Welcome Knuckles to the Piper’s Place family!

This cutie is a 9 month old APBT/Collie/Shepherd mix that was rescued by his family after being displaced with his mom and littermates during a tornado that hit Arkansas.

Knuckles can be timid in new situations and has a few unwanted habits, so we'll be working hard to build his confidence, resiliency, and help him learn great on and off leash obedience skills.

Like most families, Knuckles' family wants to include him in lots of adventures, and our training plan is customized to set them up for lifelong success.

Welcome Rye to the Piper’s Place family!

This sweet boy is young Newfiepoo and future therapy dog.

Rye is very confident and sometimes struggles with containing his excitement, so along with sharpening his obedience skills, we're also helping him with relaxation skills and off leash reliability.

As a therapy dog, Rye will be around lots of adults, young kids, and dogs, so healthy socialization is also a top priority in his training plan.
