We pride ourselves on providing trustworthy gaited trail horses.(Tennessee Walkers and Spotted Saddle Horses are what we rent for our Guid

ed Trail Rides north of Wi******er, Va by 18 miles and South of Berkeley Springs, WV by 12 miles on Hwy 522 that connects those 2 towns. Our trail rides are by appointment. We'd love to have at least 24 hours to book your trail ride. This is a real riding experience. We ride to your level of comfort. If you want to just walk, that's what we'll do, if you want to pick up the speed a bit, by all means we will provide a super smooth running walk (in place of a Trot), and a Canter too! We want you to feel Confidant. We also sell Tennessee Walking Horses and Spotted Saddle Horses, (to people all over the country), so we provide a Bed and Breakfast like experience, inviting you to stay with us so that you can take your time and learn about how to Ride a Tennessee Walking Horse or Spotted Saddle Horse, and we have a superior selection of smooth, gentle, experienced Tennessee Walking Horses and Spotted Saddle Horses for sale, that we also rent for the $45 an hour trail rides. (Cash works best please, re the trail rides). Please call Melissa Bailey (540)303-0569 to book your trail ride or to learn about the horses currently available for sale here. We sell lot's of horses, all year long, so this web page is in constant transition - but I feel very confidant that I have the horse you want. Any horse here for sale must be a proven trail horse. I bring horses out of Tennessee approx every 6 weeks and our selectioin is second to none. None of the horses for sale here come from sale barns. They are family pets. My horses don't have much of a show ring background either so they are not nervous or wired up. Several have been a family pet and shown by that family, but predominantly a trail riding horse, so if you'd also like to trail ride and compete in a show ring, it will be nice to know you are buying naturaly talented gaited horse that doesn't need soring or special devices to win in a show ring. These trail savvy gaited horses are THE ideal trail pleasure ride. Ride a horse that gives you permission to ride! We specialize in natural moving and smooth gaited trail horses with LOTS of experience on trails. Our Tennessee Walking Horses and Spotted Saddle horses double as horses we use here for our custom trail rides, birthday parties and riding lessons. Why not give them a job to do till they find their "forever home". Besides the trot not thing, our horses are GORGEOUS - we specialize in quality gaited horses of unique color, with loving personalities. We have every color under the rainbow. You'll look great on the trail riding a well behaved Palomino, Buckskin, Blue Roan, or Tobiano (Spotted) beauty. Occasionally we carry Missouri Fox Trotters and Rocky Mountain horses for sale too. If I don't have what you want, I can find it. We lived in Tennessee for 8 years and I find a sound sane smooth gaited horse better than most folks can.

Horses need loose salt and minerals with the extreme heat to help keep them hydrated.

Any hard "work" should be done in early am or later pm in cooler hours.

Lots of cold hosing!

If you must haul give electrolytes and put some ice in the trailer shavings.

If a horse is hot you can pour isopropyl alcohol on the neck veins to help cool them down

What sorts of things are you doing to help your critters of any sort stay cool right now? The dogs love swimming or even just hopping in a trough for a cool down.

How are you staying cool while doing all the things that need done?

Lincoln is our "Gold Standard" for horses sold. At the time he was only 3 or 4 but he was that 1 in a million... We are so happy to see him in his new life bringing joy to everyone that needs him.

Pretty boy let me walk right up and give him some scratches!

365 days. Actually it's a bit over that now. and I have spent the past year together and I have loved every moment, even the challenging ones.

Her lack of an eye has really been no big deal. She's proven brave and confident time and time again. She can be caught, led, tied, trailered, groomed, tacked, and feet handled. On the ground she's a boss at obstacles and very little phases her. That has also transferred very well to her ridden work. In our time together we have accomplished so many things.

This girl is quiet and has a head full of sense. At 4 she needs continued miles under saddle and well maintained rules to keep her as she is. Herd wise as she has matured I see her having a boss Mare type personality as she does not allow others to push her around.

She is gonna make an amazing partner for her person. I'm so grateful Heart of Phoenix Equine Rescue, INC gave me the opportunity to bring this special girl along and do the most important foundational work that is needed to set a young horse up for success in the future.

Meet Jemma!
This sweet girl is a year old and medium in size at 40 pounds.
You'll notice she was born with only one eye, but this doesn't give her any issues.
She can be a little shy at first, but is very gentle and submissive.
She previously lived with 2 children ages 3 & 7.
She's housetrained, crate-trained and knows a few basic commands.
She's good with other dogs, but can be a little intimidated by some. We recommend a meet & greet to ensure they'd be a good fit.
Seems fine with cats.
She's spayed, vaccinated & microchipped.
Her adoption fee is $95.

We admitted yet another Eastern Copperhead that was stuck in mesh garden netting this week. Thank you, K2C Wildlife Encounters, LLC for rescuing and transporting this snake!

Did you know that there are only three venomous snake species in Virginia? All three are pit vipers and have a heat-sensing pit on the side of their face, just in front of their eye. Timber Rattlesnakes are hard to miss as they are the only snake in Virginia with a rattle on their tail and Cottonmouths are only found in the southeastern part of our state.

Common identification myths are that venomous snakes always have a slitted pupil, like the one seen here, or that they all have triangular heads. Both venomous and nonvenomous snakes can make their head look wide and flat like a triangle when intimidated, and eye shape can easily be affected by the amount of light.

The best way to treat any snake, venomous or not, is with respect! If you can't identify a snake confidently, giving them plenty of space to escape and move away from you is the best way to prevent any negative interactions. Contrary to popular belief, snakes don't WANT to bite you - we are big scary predators that are not a food source for them, so they'll only bite in defense if they feel their life is in danger.
Give them space and allow them to play their important ecological role!

If you have any questions about a snake you think may be in need, feel free to give us a call!

Meet 3 year old Addie! This beauty came to the shelter due to no fault of her own. Recently adopted and brought back because she likes to knock things off the counter. I guess she had a lot to say! Although some do not like this kind of behavior, others understand it’s her way of communicating. Addie is a diva and she would love to find a family of her own who are familiar with this kind of princess attitude. She is fully vaccinated, spayed, microchipped & Fiv/Felv negative. Her adoption fee is $95
