Schnickelfritz Hounds

Schnickelfritz Hounds Small, in-home breeder of AKC miniature dachshunds. We raise only a few puppies each year, focusing They sleep in their own bedroom, together as a pack.

In 2010, we welcomed our first dachshund into our family, and fell in love with the breed. Now, we find joy in raising a few puppies each year, and our pack of fur-babies is a source of unconditional love! All of our puppies are born in our bedroom, where they stay for the first few weeks of life. Then, they move to the living room, where they get regularly socialization with the adult dogs, expos

ure to household noises and experiences, and lots and lots of play time! Our dogs live inside, with access to a doggy door to the back yard. While they do bark at new people (they're dachshunds!), they quickly warm up to visitors and love to meet new people. If you pet them or give them a carrot, they will love you for life!

This sweet girl's human family has been found, but she needs foster care for several months until the mom gets out of the hospital. She's already been let down by one foster (who left her tied to a pole). Can someone take care of a well-mannered service dog until she can be reunited with her family? ❤️

Somebody help us - Ruthie's figured out how to play in the water bowl. For the record, there's nothing "in" the bowl that she wants, she's just playing with the water. If you listen closely, you can kinda hear her blowing bubbles *smh* The water bowl has been placed on a table temporarily, but they have bowls in every room, so we're in for a lot of messes... #NotoriousRuthieG #puppyterrorist 5 months

Ruthie went to the Woodshed restaurant for lunch! She enjoyed walking on the sidewalk to get back to the car. (Always test the pavement temperature with your hand before letting your dog walk on it. This was warm, but adequate for long contact.) #NotoriousRuthieG 5 months

We stayed to observe the advanced therapy workshop and spent the time practicing lying down on our mat. She doesn't understand yet that her mat is supposed to be a place to lie down for a long time, but she's learning! So far, she is quick to lie down with a verbal/hand cue, and checks in with me (eye contact) frequently. #NotoriousRuthieG 5 months

Ruthie's first time at puppy playgroup! The room was divided by size, and Kim helped Ruthie get comfortable being sniffed / sniffing the other puppies by pairing the experience with food. She also made sure we didn't go over threshold by testing to make sure Ruthie was still willing to take food. (When we went to class the next morning, Ruthie tried so hard to get to her neighbor, June, and they gave each other kisses...so I'd say we're making progress!) #NotoriousRuthieG 5 months #puppyclass

Our Story

In 2010, we welcomed our first dachshund into our family, and fell in love with the breed. Now, we find joy in raising a few puppies each year, and our pack of fur-babies is a source of unconditional love! Our focus is on raising puppies with exceptional temperaments, who will grow up to be cherished members of their families. We do this by implementing the Puppy Culture protocols, following the science-based teaching of Dr. Ian Dunbar, and prioritizing the little things that can make the difference - raising puppies who seek out enriching new things and experiences, and have the confidence to take on the world! All of our puppies are born in our bedroom, where they stay for the first few weeks of life. Then, they move to the living room, where they get daily socialization with the adult dogs, exposure to household noises and experiences, and lots and lots of play time! Our dogs live inside, with access to a doggy door to the back yard. They sleep in their own bedroom, and eat a balanced raw diet. While they do bark at new people (they're dachshunds!), they quickly warm up to visitors and love to meet new people. If you pet them or give them a carrot, they will love you for life!
