***She has been caught***

We have received many calls about the mastiff behind Stracks in Crown Point. We were out in the field today with Crown Point Police. Our animal control and Crown Point Police are also working with a local trapper. We are asking the public to stay away from the area for her safety and yours. She is in flight or fight right now and we don’t want to scare her away from the area. We appreciate everyone’s concerns.

***OWNER FOUND AND PICKING HIM UP FROM THE VET***

On Friday, January 3, 2025 around 10:15 AM we were dispatched to the 3900 block of Wallace Pkwy in unincorporated Gary, Calumet Township, for a dog that was being attacked by another dog. When we arrived we found a black and white, male, unaltered, pit mix. He was in injured and in shock. We immediately rushed him to the vet for treatment.
He was treated for hypothermia, put on IV fluids, and his wounds were cleaned. He is very lucky and wont require surgery. No microchip was found.
We are actively trying to find an owner. We don’t know if this dog got out recently or has been missing. The pictures below are from today. His face is a swollen and the vet had to save some area to clean his wounds.
The shelter has named him Wallace.
If this dog looks familiar or you have any information please contact us at 219-769-7016 or send us a private message.
***We were unable to locate the other dog but we let neighbors know to contact us if they have seen it***

Every day we receive more and more calls about owners needing to surrender their pets. Since we are an animal control shelter, we do not accept owner surrenders. We have teamed up with REHOME by Adopt-a-Pet. Adopt-a-Pet.com has created a simple, reliable program to help you place your pet from your loving home directly to another.

HERE IS HOW IT WORKS
1. Create a Pet Profile
Get your pets posted on Adopt-a-Pet.com to be seen by millions of pet adopters.
2. Review Applications
The dedicated team at Rehome will give you all the help you need to select the best potential adopters.
3. Meet Adopters
The Rehome team will guide you through the process of setting safe and pressure-free meetings with applicants.
4. Finalize Adoption
Rehome will provide you with a template for transfer of ownership with your adopter!

To list your pet, owners either pay Rehome a small listing fee (between $5 and $50 based on the type and age of their pet), or we have provided pet owners in need with this referral coupon code that reduces the listing fee to $1:

Naomi has been waiting patiently at the shelter for 7️⃣ months, but no one has asked to meet her yet🥺 We don’t know why—this gentle, playful girl is full of love and charm!

Naomi is a certified fly catcher, ready to pounce on any that dare come too close. She’s also a toy enthusiast, especially when it comes to stuffies (though they may not stay intact for long). Soft beds are her absolute favorite—she loves them so much that she’ll try to burrow inside for maximum coziness.

While Naomi enjoys playtime, she’s just as happy lounging around and napping the day away. She’s at her happiest when she gets time in the office, away from the noisy shelter environment. There, she can relax, nap, sit on laps, and show off her toy-playing skills.

Naomi would thrive in a home where she’s the only pet and can be the center of attention. Because of her playful nature, she’d do best with children over 12. She is sure to steal your heart with her gentle kisses and big personality! If you’re interested in meeting Naomi, call us at 219-769-7016 or send us a private message to make an appointment!💜
