Lake County, IN Animal Control and Adoption

On Wednesday, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources and the Lake County Sheriff's Department served a warrant for suspected illegal hunting. Lake County Sheriff's Animal Control were asked to assist for aggressive dogs on the property but when we arrived we found all them to be very friendly. Although, to our surprise, we found 23 dogs living in poor conditions and we had to act fast.

Knowing all the shelters in the area, including ours, are at max capacity or close to it we weren't sure how we would house 23 dogs. Without hesitation our partner shelters, Humane Indiana and The Humane Society of Hobart, Inc. met us on scene. This was a team effort and we are extremely grateful for our partnership. We could not have saved all these animals without their help.

Due to an unexpected high intake of dogs we are in need of a few items. We are always in need of food. We prefer Diamond Naturals, Kirkland (Costco), and Natures Recipe but any food donations are much appreciated.
Other items: Easy Cheese (cheese in a can), 55 gallon garbage bags, 13 gallon garbage bags, laundry detergent (liquid), bleach, paper towels, and Dawn dish soap.

All of our cats and dogs that are available for adoption are spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. Call or message us for more information about our adoptables. We are also open to the public Monday-Saturday 11:00 AM-3:30 PM and Sunday by appointment only.

Ruby loves when she gets to play in the office! This girl is go, go, go (just until she finds a comfy place to sprawl out and be lazy)!

Ruby has been with us at the shelter since February:( Because of this, combined with her deafness, she has become quite weary of strangers. But, Ruby absolutely LOVES staff and giving them kisses. She is sure to warm up to you once she becomes familiar and adjusts to a safer environment! (Treats are the way to her heart:))

Ruby has done well with many of our dogs! She prefers to just exist with them but can be playful at times as well. Please give this girl a chance! We don’t want her fear to define her any longer❤️

This dog was found in Crown Point on the 800 block of East Joliet St.
NO CHIP or Collar. The harness is the finders.
*We are currently at capacity and this dog was found in Crown Point jurisdiction. The finder was advised to make a report with Crown Point Police Department*

-Found today 11/11/2024 at around 2:00pm. Dog was found at 15205 Wicker Ave in Unincorporated Cedar Lake, at Uncle John’s Flee Market. Finder had seen this dog running with another dog but was only able to get a hold of one of them.

Jelly has been working hard in the office all week, but she was disappointed when nobody came to see her🥺 Come meet this sweet girl! She might even bark you through the foster/adoption process!

Jelly is looking for a quiet foster home where she can live peacefully while going through heartworm treatment. Some of her favorite things include stuffed toys and giving gentle kisses to staff! She is an absolute sweetie pie💜

Jelly needs to be in a home with no other animals, especially while receiving treatment. But, she has the potential to do really well living with a male dog once she decompresses from the shelter environment! Lucy is missing! She is a gray, white and orange tabico with amber eyes. Last seen near Tenbrook and Monterrey in Crown Point on Monday 10/28. She is not chipped and currently has no collar.
