Music Boosters, Patrons, Rowdies and Friends, can you believe it’s here already. Football Home opener this Friday August 23 VS Lowell As usual I will have the tent and banner set up around 4:45. same spot as last year. Blue tent along the main entrance to the Highschool on the fine arts parking lot side. A few people reached out and asked if this was just for marching band parents. Just to clarify: Any one is welcome. The purpose of this group is to get parents together, support the marching band and to help grow the involvement in the music boosters. This is an opportunity to meet other parents and to hang out before the game. Lastly just to have fun. Would love some input if everyone wants to have pregame food or snacks? For this weeks game bring what you want for yourself or to even share. Couple notes the Dog walk is at 5:45 or so. This is where the drumline, cheerleaders and dance team walk the footbal team out. That happens on the south end of the building. Also pregame concert by the bull dog featuring the Royal Regiment Marching Band at the main entrance of the school happens around 6:20. Finally, looking forward to seeing old faces and all the new faces this year. Hope to see everyone again. If you have any ideas or questions please let us know. Thanks Shawn

Please take a moment to respond to this.

Hello Music Parents
The Indiana State Board of Education (SBOE) is revising the Indiana Department of Education’s (IDOE) high school diploma. The new diploma would reimagine the high school experience to focus on work-based education and emphasize job credential-focused apprenticeships before graduating high school.
Concerns for Your Student
This new diploma waters down the difficulty and expectation in the core subjects
There is a lack of guidance for Juniors and Seniors
There is no plan for supervision of students in the workplace/internships
There is no plan to train businesses who are hiring students for credit
There is a lack of college preparation requirements
Lack of resources for counselors who will be expected to have more record keeping
There is a lack of equity across the state for “work based requirements” based on financial limitations, community type and access to businesses
Concerns for Music and The Arts
The new diploma eliminates the current 2 credit requirement to take arts classes in high school.
The new diploma would give 9th and 10th graders the option to take fine arts courses to fulfill the two hour “Work Ethic” requirement, but they will be choosing between PE, health, marching band, etc.
The new diploma would give 11th and 12th graders the option to take one “Fine Arts / Creative” credit and one “Elective” credit consisting of the arts or other classes (such as World Geography, Economics, Language Arts, etc.), which would count towards their diploma requirements.
Our Recommendation for Changes
Arts should be defined as “co-curricular” instead of “extracurricular.” Extracurricular classes are not required to be taught by licensed teachers.
Rationale: Arts are an essential part of a well rounded education, according to federal legislation in the Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015. These classes should be taught by a licensed teacher in this area for optimal student learning. There is particular concern for urban and rural area schools.
Include a requirement in the freshman/sophomore year “Foundational Courses and Competencies" for 1 credit of fine arts.
Rationale: Arts education address all of the 7 C’s of Employability Skills (Collaboration, Communication, Creativity, Critical Thinking, Character, Citizenship and Computational Thinking)
After school performing arts activities (e.g., after school ensembles, musical theater, etc) should be included as “work-based learning” under Component 2 of the GPS+ plan.
Rationale: Based on the March board presentation (p. 30), After school Arts activities provide Level 2 work-based learning experiences.

Feel free to respond how you wish. You can also copy and paste the following message into “How can this proposed plan be improved?”
1. Please define Arts as “co-curricular” instead of “extracurricular.”
2. Include a requirement in the freshman/sophomore year “Foundational Courses and Competencies" for 1 credit of fine arts.
3. Include after school performing arts activities as “work-based learning” under Component 2 of the GPS+ plan.

The Royal Regiment- Senior night pregame concert… October 13, 2023

Crown Point High School Cafeteria

10/12/2023

Hello Rowdies!

Looks like the forecast for tomorrow night is calling for rain, so wanted to provide everyone with the rain plan. Per Mr Sletto if it is raining, they will not march. The student tailgate will be at 5 PM in the band room as planned. The senior party will still be in the cafeteria at 5pm, also as planned. The band will perform the pregame concert at 6:20 in the cafeteria. The seniors and their parents will then be announced, then the band will play the music from their show one last time. Mr. Sletto is guessing this should all be done by around 7:30pm.

If by some chance, the rain holds off, the plan will be, as it was previously! I will try to keep you all updated as best I can! Everyone keep your fingers crossed the rain somehow holds off for us!!

This was asked by another parent… anyone know the answer?

“Hi. Help. I found a calendar that listed high school orchestra and middle school band concerts++ online. I can’t find it now. I think there’s a high school orchestra concert tonight. I think there’s a middle school concert 10/9.

Please help.”

I would love to have that too!!

Hi Rowdies and Senior parents!

Here are updates from the senior meeting on Monday.

Flowers-
Kristen Niemiec (Senior guard member Katie’s mom) volunteered to take care of ordering and putting together the flowers for senior night! Thank you Kristen!!!

Cake-
Mary Ory (Senior sax Evelyn’s mom) volunteered to make and donate the cake for 200 people!! She is providing this at zero cost as a gift to the seniors!!!

Sashes-
Great idea proposed to do senior sashes that they can wear over their uniforms. Mr Sletto gave his ok to do this. Jeanine Letcher (mom to Chris, senior trumpeter) has volunteered to be in charge of the sashes! I was told someone mentioned having a cricket and volunteered adding to the sashes, but I did not get a contact name. If this is you, could you please reach out to me and let me know so I can get you in touch with Jeanine?

Yard Sign-
I got quotes from three local companies. I asked Mr. Sletto if we needed to get permission from the school to do this? He is checking and will let us know. Sign Gypsies quoted me $45 to do “2024 Seniors” (with a school discount of almost 50%!!). If we get the OK from Mr. Sletto and the school, we will move forward with ordering! This will be placed in front of the Bulldog statue for the pregame concert and pictures!

Photo Op Station-
Cathy Mok (mom to Jacob sr tuba), Sara Stafford (mom to David sr sax), and Misty Luri (mom to Andrew sr sax) have taken charge organizing the photo station for the seniors to be able to get pics with their friends and parents. Cathy contacted Royce Chenore (dad to CeCe sophomore flutist) of Royce photography and he agreed to donate a backdrop and stand for us to use. Sara got some fun props the kids can use in the pics too!

Help and donations needed-
I have created sign up sheets on sign-up genius. One is for items we need donated, and the second is for time slots to help set up and clean up! Please click on the links and sign up for what you can do! Also collecting monetary donations to help pay for everything! Again I have Apple Pay, Venmo, Zelle, and the cash app all under Natalie Browne. You can also give $ to the Moks, Mr Sletto, or myself! Reach out to me if u need help!

The senior parent meeting will be at 6pm at CPHS. Per Mr Sletto there is an orchestra concert also at 6pm so things should be open. Hoping to meet in the band room.... if someone could walk through the fine arts entrance and open the band room door for everyone else? Plan to congregate in front of the band room until the first one there can open the door for everyone!

I am out of state dealing with a family emergency. Cathy & Charlie Mok will be running the meeting. Will email info after and post to rowdies FB page. We need everyone to donate $ if possible so we can order cake, etc. For the rest of the items needed we will do a donation sign up sheet and hope they get covered. What doesn't we will have to purchase with whatever donation money we collect. I'll get the sign up up and going tomorrow based on the decisions made at the meeting tonight!

I have Apple Pay, Zelle, Venmo, and cash app under Natalie Browne if you want to send a donation to help cover the costs that way. Or can just give cash to me, the Moks, or Mr Sletto.

We will also need help Thurs 10/12 in the evening making the flowers for the moms, Friday 10/13 during the day picking up cake and balloons etc, starting at 2:45pm decorating and setting up the cafeteria & band room, then after the tailgate with cleanup! There will be a sign up for these needs too!

Thank you all for being willing to pitch in to make this awesome for our seniors!!!
