✨✨Patient Spotlight✨✨This is Little Duck. She and Dr. Raab became close buds while she was being treated for some issues with her feet. Dr. Raab needed to make sure Little Duck was in top shape for her very important role as the unofficial mascot of preschool class at the Covenant School this past year. EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT !

We are excited to highlight Dr. Kyle Kerstetter, DAVCS, a board-certified Veterinary surgeon who has been working with our patients since 2022. Dr. Kerstetter performs surgical procedures at Animal Wellness Center that previously required referrals to specialty clinics. He works closely with our doctors to meet the surgical needs of our patients that require more advanced surgical and orthopedic procedures, allowing our doctors to stay more directly involved in your pet’s care.

After having orthopedic surgery performed at Animal Wellness Center with Dr. Kerstetter, rehabilitation therapy is also available at AWC. Dr. Rethemeyer, DVM, CCRP, Dr. Cook, DVM, CVA, CCRP, CVMMP, and Shannon Caruana, LVT, CCRVT, provide certified in-house rehabilitation programs for your pet post-surgically to achieve the best possible post-surgical outcome.

Prospective clients, please call AWC directly if you are interested in a consultation. If you are a referring veterinarian, please fill out the referral form on our webpage.

As always, we are so happy to offer the best possible medicine, surgery, and integrative care for your pets.

Thanks,

Hillary Cook DVM, CVA, CCRP, CVMMP

Did you know that we offer complimentary puppy snuggles at every appointment? Our assistant Megan was happy to oblige at this sweet boy’s recent visit. Seriously though, we can’t emphasize enough how important it is to socialize pets at a young age. Gently exposing them to a wide variety of people, places, and situations can make a huge, permanent difference in their temperament. We recommend delaying public outings like dog parks, pet stores, and puppy classes until after starting their initial vaccines.

Did you know that by their second birthday, 80% of dogs and 70% of cats have some form of periodontal disease? If you notice their breath is not so fresh, that may be the first sign.

You should have your pet’s teeth evaluated yearly for early signs of:
Broken teeth and roots
Periodontal disease
Abscesses or infected teeth
Cysts or tumors in the mouth
Malocclusion, or misalignment of the teeth and bite
If your veterinarinan recommends denitstry for your pet, a thorough dental cleaning and evaluation are performed under general anesthesia.

While February is National Pet Dental Health Month, dental health should be a daily ritual for pet owners all year long. That’s why here at AWC, we offer discounts on our dental profalaxic services year round!

For a list of veterinarinan recommended dental health products go our online pharmacy: https://shop.crozetanimalwellnesscenter.com/pet/

This week we took a moment to let our Veterinary Assistants know how much we appreciate them. Our assistants are the backbone of our clinic: from greeting our clients, getting patient histories, offering a gentle hug, filling medications, taking x-rays, performing treatments, and SO MUCH MORE!!! We are so grateful to have such an amazing team. Thank you for all of your hard work. 🩷🩷🩷
