Some cute tussling from fierce 3 week old kittens, featuring Delulu (solid black girl) and Rizz (black and white boy) from the Social Media Darkings litter.

The Social Media Darlings litter is three weeks old now so they get an expanded habitat. They’ve got their same crate bed with their heating pad and stuffed toy but now it’s inside a playpen and open so they can explore a bit. Since we had the poopy accident, they’ve got a little litter box in there, too, to start getting familiar with.

When we’re in the foster room with them, we open the side of the playpen so they can wander out. Rizz (black and white boy) does come out on his own but he’s a little more cautious than the solid black twins (Big Yikes, boy, and Delulu, girl).

Visit ellasanimals.org to learn more about this litter and when they’ll be available for adoption.

Some soothing videos of the Social Media Darlings litter enjoying their bottle feedings this morning.

First Big Yikes, solid black boy, sucks down his first 10 ml in 15 seconds flat. Second, Rizz (black and white boy) takes a bit longer but makes a lot more noise. Third, Delulu (solid black girl) prefers a flat down, stretched out position. Her mouth is often open a bit but she is still suckling. You can tell when they are suckling because they pull the milk through without any help from me and it goes a lot faster than when I’m just keeping some light, steady pressure on the plunger.

Everybody gets a burp and a snuggle before being offered another 10 ml, which sometimes they take and sometimes they don’t. They generally knead and suckle at my shirt during these cuddle breaks between bottles. They find that comforting and always purr, even though that’s not where they get their kitten formula.

These kittens are being fostered and will be available for adoption mid to late September. Visit ellasanimals.org/foster-kittens for more information.

The Social Media Darlings litter hears me (or smells me?) in their sleep when I enter the foster room to feed them. They waste no time trying to get out of their warming crate and over to their bottles. Side note: Rizz might me a little melodramatic.

The Social Media Darlings litter: Rizz (black and white boy), Big Yikes (solid black boy), and Delulu (solid black girl).

They’re settling in well as we approach 48 hours. Everyone is eating (and latching/suckling sometimes), and pottying and pooping. After the chores are done, they get their snuggles.

Meet the new foster kittens! (In addition to teaching people with disabilities how to train their own service dogs, we foster kittens for the local shelter.)

The Social Media Darlings litter: Big Yikes, Rizz, and Delulu. Rizz is the black and white kitten. Delulu is the only girl. Big Yikes, contrary to his name, is the smallest of the trio. I told him he has some catching up to do or he might be called Little Yikes.

These bottle babies are about two weeks old so they’re being fed every four hours around the clock. We’ve got a lot of hands on deck during summer vacation to lighten the load.

Service dog in training, Vanilla Bean Latte, is about 14 months old and has logged 145 training hours. Bean’s done quite a bit of public access training and yesterday he graduated to training at a theme park. He accompanied us while eating at the Leaky Caldron in Diagon Alley, waited in the crate while we rode Escape from Gringott’s, rode the Hogwart’s Express, and finished strong by riding The Cat in the Hat.

He handled the new challenges, like the moving sidewalks, a strange crate, loading into a ride vehicle, and pottying in a service dog relief area, with grace and courage. We specifically took Phin with us to help show him the ropes and ease his first experience of being left in a crate away from home.

Today I’m working on generalizing Bean’s “touch” outside in preparation for other tasks.

This particular light that Pumpkin and Phin are wearing after dark in Disney World’s Magic Kingdom are from Ruffwear. They are rechargeable with USB cables and waterproof (we use them when kayaking with the dogs, too). With quick and simple clicks, they can be changed from red to green or blue, and from steady to blinking or pulsing. The batteries last from 6 to 20 hours, depending on the setting. When we’re in crowded places after dark, clicking these lights on can help others avoid bumping into or stepping on our dogs.

Do you find it helpful to use lights on your dogs?

Do you have particular lights you prefer?
