🌞Summer is here, and so are the pesty bugs! 🌞
Don't let tiny troublemakers spoil your outdoor fun with your furry pals. Fleas & ticks can be prevented, which can help reduce chances of skin problems, Lyme Disease, and more! Where there are mosquitoes there's also the chance for heartworm, which causes heart problems & organ damage. Fortunately, heartworms can be prevented too! Here are some way to help stay on top of flea, tick, and heartworm prevention:
🐾 Prevention is best managed with one of the many veterinary-approved flea and tick, and heartworm products available on the market. Speak to your veterinarian to find the best, most appropriate prevention product for your pet.
🐾 Regularly inspect your pet for ticks after walks through the woods or grassy settings (even if they are taking a preventative). Check your pet's ears, toes, legs, and other nooks and cranny's for any sneaky ticks.
🐾 If you find a tick, properly remove it from your pet. Investing in a pair of fine tweezers or a tick removal tool can help get the job done. It’s best to wear gloves and remove the tick by the head. If you are unable to remove the tick, call your family veterinarian.
🐾Fleas can be spotted on areas of your dog where the coat is sparse or thin, like the belly, inner sides of the hind limbs, and armpits. You may also be able to see “flea dirt” or f***s - tiny dark spots that turn red from digested blood when put on a wet paper towel.
🐾Get your pet tested yearly for heartworms to ensure your pet is healthy and able to continue on their regular heartworm prevention. Some tests will even look for heartworms and tick borne diseases, like Lyme, all at once!
