Walking through the kennels today, I stopped for a moment just to appreciate the care that goes into every single kennel setup. Fresh bedding, toys, and treats are laid out each day to make sure our animals feel comfort, safety, and love while they wait for their forever homes. We are so grateful for our amazing Animal Care Team who make this happen daily.

These photos tell the story of who we are now. They remind us of how our work is so important to the scared, exhausted animals who arrive with nothing, and how, for many, the shelter becomes the first place they’ve ever felt safe: Their first soft bed. Their first good night’s sleep. The first moment they can finally just breathe. Watching them heal and feel safe is nothing short of incredible.

This journey has taken years of City of Cuba support, community support, vet support from Cuba Vet Clinic, donations to Partners for the Cuba Pound, and pure love and grit from our shelter staff. What you see here is just a small glimpse of who we are, and how we strive to be the best of the best. We are so proud of the work we do. A shout out to our team – Cade Ray, ACO, Caity Zweifel and Sarah Butler, Animal Care attendants.

If you would like to visit the shelter, we are open to the public Monday – Saturday from 9 – 3. You might just find your new best friend.

- Missy Mullally, Shelter Manager

Colby Jack spent the afternoon emptying the entire toy basket, playing with every single toy, and scattered the evidence everywhere. Afterwards, he was so exhausted he settled for a nap with zero intention of helping with cleanup.
As usual, his staff will handle the cleanup. 🤷‍♀️😼

Monty is proud to be a shelter dog leaving his past behind, and he’s finally ready for the second chance he deserves. ❤️ He is a friendly 10 month old ready for a family.

If you’d like to look as good as Monty in his Cuba Shelter t-shirt and show your support, shirts are available for $15. Every purchase goes directly toward caring for the pets without people to whom we’ve been able to provide a safe haven.

Stop by Monday through Saturday between 9am and 3pm to pick one up. Sizes are limited, and shipping is not available. A special thanks to the family that adopted Malachi. They designed and donated the t-shirts to help raise money for the shelter. ❤️

"I'm ready to go home!" 💕

Animal Care Attendant Caity helps Skippy brave a photo opp on his adoption day. Building trust in the animals that come into our care and seeing them go on to thrive in their forever homes is the ultimate reward. Congratulations to Skippy and his new dad!

Breanna spent far too long on the streets without consistent care, but those days are finally behind her. This sweet senior girl is about 10 years old, spayed, and up to date on vaccinations.

It’s nearly impossible to get a good photo because she always wants to be right by your side. Breanna would rather curl up in a warm lap than anywhere else.

She adores her breakfast, lunch, and dinner and isn’t shy about telling you when it’s mealtime. If you’re looking for a devoted lap companion, Breanna is your girl.

A heartfelt thank you to 3rd & Pine Café in Gerald for hosting such a successful fundraiser last month to help the animals at the Cuba Shelter. It was a fun event, and the patrons were incredibly generous.

A special thank you to Danny Pope and Laura Flannery for all of your efforts. The owner of the Cafe, Danny, graciously donated a portion of the day’s sales, and together with t-shirt sales and silent auction items, $675 was raised to benefit our shelter.

We are truly grateful for their support and kindness to our animals. 🐾💛 please visit them if you can. You won't be dissappointed. The food is great. ❤️🐾❤️

Skippy is one of the young male dogs who was allegedly found in a crate behind Walmart. Unfortunately, the camera footage in that area didn’t provide the evidence needed to prosecute, but what matters most now, is how far they’ve come in such a short time

At about 10 months old, both Monty and Skippy have truly come out of their shell and left a neglected rough start behind them. Both have grown into a happy, social boys ready to find familes of their own.

His brother Monty is posted separately, as they don’t need to be adopted together.

Check out the comments for photos showing their amazing transformation from intake to now. ❤️ These boys are going to make wonderful family dogs!
