Guess who's back, back again! Jen's Sweet Treats, tell a friend!

10/15/2024

MADACC currently has over 400 animals in the facility. We need help.

We don't need "I wish I could but ..."; we don't need "Someone go and save those animals .."; we don't need people lamenting about irresponsible ownership and breeders in the comments. While we love it when posts get traction on social media because it helps spread awareness, what we need is for more people to step away from their keyboards/phones and volunteer in our facility.

We have endless volunteer options with or without animal interaction- walking dogs, cleaning kennels, filling enrichment toys, socializing cats, doing laundry, helping with surgery (primarily with post surgery care and check ins), helping with administrative tasks, facilitating adoptions, and more. As always, we need people to come in and adopt - but at the same time, we need to make sure every animal is being given the best life possible while they're being housed at MADACC and that can happen with just an hour a week of your time!

Please. We're asking for your help sincerely. Volunteer, adopt, help.

Adoptable Graham popping in to share todays pitbull fun fact!

While we love pitbulls and the notion of 'nanny dogs' was likely meant to shine a positive light on our misunderstood blockheads, there is actually no historical proof that pitbulls were ever put in charge of watching over children. In fact, we'd recommend against leaving ANY breed of dog, regardless of presumed temperament, alone with children! Kids are unpredictable and unlikely to understand a dog's signs of discomfort - so it's always best to keep kids and pups separate unless a parent or adult is around to supervise!

Tip Tuesday: Keeping your dogs inside on days like today: It’s very demure, very mindful.

We’ve said it before but, since it’s one of the hottest days of the summer, we’ll scream it from the rooftops (and then quickly head back inside to the a/c) - it’s too hot for dogs (and people) to be outside for extended periods of time. Save your walks for this evening! In the meantime - teach your dog a new trick, wrap some kibble up in a beach towel, toss some kibble/treats in a box and stuff it with packing paper; walk your dog through the halls if you live in a condo/apartment building; play fetch up and down some stairs or down a long hallway in your house. There are a million low- and no-cost enrichment activities that, for most dogs, will be enough to take the edge off of their angst for missing a walk until the heat wave passes. How are you keeping your dog busy and cool today?

Preparing a safe space, using background noise, exercising your dog, staying calm, providing distractions, considering calming aids, and ensuring proper identification can help keep your dog safe and comfortable during fireworks.
